Fray SCD. Help, I'm stuck in a town
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:27:06 AM »
Earlier this morning I had some time, noticed I didn't lose my saves due to having the system modded, and decided to spend a bit more time with Fray.

I am at the town after you defeat the Squid. I've done much of what appears to be needed done. Some person fell out of the sky, the item shoppe now sells items (health, etc). I've talked to everyone I've encoutnered. I think i msut need a certain item, I'm not sure.

In the upper left corner there is a group of 4 characters, one gives me an optional answer; this or that. I have a feeling not being able to exit the town has to do with that somehow. I've chosen both answers, then talked to all characters agian, still nothing

I ran a quick search, I didn't locate any walkthrough for this game. Isn't much surprising, since these towns seem to only be there to purchase weapons and ehalth.

Help.

Thanks

It's been a long time since I played through Fray, but I don't remember having big problems going through towns.  There's one point where an altercation happens inside a shop, which moves the story along, another discussion happening in front of a fountain (?), and another town where you have to exit the town by going to the boardwalk to the east of the town, and going north to the battle area.

One other tip: in some of the towns, there are hidden paths (like to the northwest of the first (?) town) where you can walk around and find some hidden bonus items.

My memories are a bit hazy, but at that point you should have an item that allows you to warp back to old towns.  Use that item and talk to all of the people in the old towns and something should happen.  I vaguely remember there being a dude lying in bed that you had to visit.

I remember the bed dude as well, I also remember getting a different weapon staff in a store, after that I could continue.

A moment ago I ran a search online, found a site dedicated to the Xak series. Someone had posted a similar question on their message board.

I encountered the warp item earlier in the game, however considering the game plays in one direction, I figured I could not go back to different towns and it only sent me back to the town I was just at.

It makes more sense now, there is a bit of backtracking to do. I went through the mine level, defeated a dragon, and saved my game.

Not knowing how to read Japanese adds to the difficulty, hahaha.

All togehter, Fray is a decent game. It's gameplay is unique.

I don't know of any other game where I fight a woman with wings (and her robots) and when I defeat her, her top pops off, placing her breasts on display to Fray and myself. hahaha, good stuff... More games need scenes like that.

Seldane, I found the information here, http://www.miraigamer.net/forums/showthread.php?p=6831

It appears to be a board releated to the XYZ site.

@MrFulci - I'm playing Fray this weekend and am currently stuck in the same town (after squidy).  I've warped back to the beginning, fought my way back to this town, and talked to everybody along the way.  Can you tell me where I need to go or what I need to buy, 'cause I'm obviously overlooking something.

grahf,

OH NO! YOU SPIED ON MY SAVES!

haha, I was half expecting them not to be there when the system returned, as one never knows what can happen with electronics when they travel or are being modified/repaired. I didn't have anything important on there, so if it were lost, oh well. I wasn't very far through Fray, after the first boss I saved the game.

I have about 9 items on the memory at the moment. Sometime I need to look through the turbo-list to see what they all are as some file names aren't easy to match up with their game. I have saved; Populous SCD (I hope this only saves the paswords, and isn't a memory hog), Flash Hiders, Fray, and I think everything else are high score files.

Necro,

Here is what I know so far from Fray, and the 4 bosses I've gone through.

- First boss is easy, you just journey upwards.

- First town, talk a lot, buy stuff, can't go through the gate to leave, talk to a person in a house, something happens (Receive the warp item?), go to the gate, you can pass now.

- Journey upwards, fight stuff, fight against winged woman with robots, whose top pops off after defeat, so Fray can enjoy the view.

- This next town. Some person is in a bed inside a house, talk to them. There are more powerful staffs now, buy them. There was some person near a fallen bridge (upper portion of map) that Fray smacks about. Sweep the town, talk to everyone. Walk to the right, there are docks. You talk to this older person, he parts the water, then Fray is apprehensive about jumping down there, so the older guy kicks her down there.

- Fight upwards. This map bothers me due to the log jump, where you have to make these precise jumps to get across. I fell down the chasm many times here, and acquired much more gold due to this. This is where I accidentally discovered the warp item that took me back to town. There, I bought more stuff with all the gold I acquired. I played the first part of this fighting map about 10 times to build gold. Anyway, you fight a squid, not too tricky.

- The next town, lots of action and talking. There is some stuff witha  shoppe, where they won't sell you anything. Some person falls out of the sky, into the fountain. lot sof talking, he and the person you meet when you enter the town enter the shoppe. Sometime after that, the shopped will sell you stuff (shields and food). Enter all the doors you can, talk to everyone. Talk to the people in the upper left corner (4 of them). If you are presented with what seems to be an, "Either-or" question, choose one answer, then talk to the person again and choose the other.. Do a sweep and talk to everyone.

THIS IS WHERE I WAS STUCK WHEN I MADE THIS THREAD.

- Take out the warp item, you can move the arrow around and choose destinations. I performed a sweep, meaning I went to the first town, then the next, etc, 'til iw as back to where I was stuck.

- In each town,a syou do the sweep, talk to everyone. Fray gives an herb or something to the person in a bed, wakes up, I think you receive an item fromt hem or something. I can't recall. Continue the sweep, talking to everyone.

- When you reach the town I was stuck at talk to everyone again. I noticed the 4 people in the upper-left corner were no longer grouped together after that sweep. Now you should be able to exit through the path at the top of the town.

After all of that, I saved my game, and I;ve yet to return to it. After typing all that above, i may return to it today, haha, I'll see....

ALSO, A HINT. On the way to fight that dragon, there is a spot where there are enemies in mine carts, on tracks left to right. As soon as you see them, get in a position where you can turbo fire. Hold down that button for a while, read a magazine, whatever.  These enemies constantly respawn and don't travel off their track. Nothing could attack me in that spot, so I left the game alone for 10-15 min to build gold.

Hope that helps!

Thanks MrFulci, I'll give a try tonight.  I warped back the first town and thought that I'd talked to everybody on the way back, but I must have overlooked something.

PS - Those log jumps really suck.  The cute sprite of Fray plummeting is not so cute after a few dozen falls.
