Duo-RX save game?
« on: June 08, 2007, 08:35:38 PM »
Hi.
Just of curiosity... Is there some kind of battery backup in the Duo-RX to save games or how does it work?
TIA.

Yeah, all Duos have save game memory. So do TurboGrafx-CD consoles.

Only certain games support it, and certainly they will let you know if they do.

Thanks. There will be no battery swapping then? Nice to know :)

I understand it's a "rechargeable" battery that replenishes every time you plug in and turn on your Turbo.

Some game manuals say you need to turn on your system every two weeks to ensure the memory stays intact but I've left my system unplugged and off for months without trouble.

yes, those batteries are now over 10y old. when you switch on the DUO the batteries always getting charged a little bit, and the save data keep staying on it. but if you don't turn on your DUO periodically, let's say over more than 3 month or so, all the data could be gone for ever. that's just my experience i had over the last years with my DUOs.

In that case, i guess i can replace the battery? I presume that the machines in stores and Ebay (Dream Stars, Hit-Japan etc) might have a problem with the battery since they are on sale for some time. My next question is this: Is it soldered?

The batteries usually are not soldered. They are in a round plastic holder and can easily be popped out and replaced. I had to replace the battery in my saturn once. I think that either way, new or used battery, you may still have to turn on the system every now and then.

The battery is easily removed on the Saturn. I remember that from the time i used to own a white system. But i don't have to worry about the battery on the PCE. I can almost figure its as easy removing as the Sega?

It's not a battery, it's a capacitor that keeps the sram chip powered.

I was just about to say exactly what Seldane did.  But I won't since he already said it.  I have no idea why I'm even posting.  Oh well, 'tis my lot in life.

Don't forget - like all caps, they can die of old age and need replacing.

Now i just hope this capacitator can be purchased in any electronics store. It would be a shame if the opposite was the issue here :(

Capacitors are usually pretty easy to find.

But unless you're experiencing problems with yours, why bother?
