Splatterhouse bootleg PCE game

I didn't know these were out there. I had never heard of one before. At first glance, it looked original. Though, after looking at the spine I knew something was up.

PC-Card, hmmmmmmm....

Then came the Hu-Card PC-Card label, which is actually a sticker.

It plays well, I've only gone through the first 2 levels, though during that time I didn't notice any glitching.

How many games did "King" bootleg? What is the country of origin? What is the history out there for these boots?

It's likely Korean. Just my educated guess.

King was out of Hong Kong and also pirated Altered Beast and Genpei Toumaden (and probably more).  Head over to the Video Game Den for a little info. on pirated PCE games.

Nah man, we Koreans never pirate!   We even got "official" releases with the Vistar and all.  (Well, the games were just U.S. Turbochip releases with a sticker with Korean writing over it, though the manual was more professional looking).

Hmm... I'm not sure if I can tell you all that much more than the nfg games website.  A few extra tidbits...

- It was imported and distributed by Haitai, a Korean company that is mainly known for its confectionery.  It was a huuuuge failure, and some say that it was one of the reasons why the company was eventually taken over by Crown, a rival confectionery firm. 
- It doesn't seem too plentiful in Korea, yet I don't think it fetches crazy high prices there (don't quote me on that). 
- According to the Korean script there, Vistar is pronounced with a long-i.  "Vy-Star"
- Haitai also released a Famicom clone, the Supercom II.

The author of the nfg games article above talks about receiving all those items at the end of the article, and what's kinda funny is I think I found a Korean page from the guy who supplied the goods to him (he mentions that he's sending these off to the U.S., and the games list is identical to what the nfggames guy received.)  The Korean guy's page is here.

You rock! Thanks for the info. If you ever find any additional info on the games that were given a "Korean" release, I'd love to find out.

While we're talking about Korea, are the Zemmix consoles actually rare, or do people just charge up the wazoo for exporting them?

Not an MSX/Zemmix guy, so I'm not too sure, but since there are so many models, price obviously fluctuates.  Just from quick searching through, they don't seem too bad, somewhere around the equivalent of $30-$100 in Korea (depending on model, condition, etc).  That's if you were to buy it from a private party (auction sites, etc).  I'm sure it'd be more through used game shops. 

I have no idea what they go for in the west, so I dunno if that's a bargain or not.
