Turbografx controller adapter for Duo
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:20:35 AM »
My brother called me the other day and said that he found 2 TG 16 controllers and a TurboTap in a box.  Man, I would love for him to find my Turbografx, but I think I stupidly sold it way back when.   #-o Anyway, I was just wondering if there are adapters for the controllers so I can use them with my Duo. I'm pretty sure there are, but just wanted to make sure. And if they aren't just figments of my imagination how much do they usually go for?

It would be sweet to have some multiplayer action with Bomberman and Dungeon Explorer.  :D

I bought mine when they first came out, but haven't seen any since.

In the console forum, Mr.Fulci looks like he's using an adapter.

Here's the link to his gaming set up. http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=3347.15 At the bottom of the pick you can see a TurboPad connected to a white adapter so he can use it for his Duo-R. Pretty sweet.

I need to get my hands on a couple of those.  :-k

you can convert them by buying the duo repair cable from tzd. It just plugs in.

ha! Great idea. Thanks.  :) There must be a page or instructions on how to do that online somewhere, eh? Or even here in the "mod" forums?

Sure, here's your instructions (pay very close attention - this is one hairy mod):

Step 1 - Purchase or scavenge replacement cord.
Step 2 - Remove screws from backside of controller.
Step 3 - Disassemble controller to expose cord socket.
Step 4 - Unplug existing cable.
Step 5 - Plug in replacement cable.
Step 6 - While it's opened up, clean up inside of controller.
Step 7 - Reassemble controller.
Step 8 - Purchase new screws to replace screws lost in carpet during Step 2.
Step 9 - Install new screws.
Step 10 - Plug controller into console.
Step 11 - Insert Deep Blue.
Step 12 - Turn console on (you know - talk dirty to it, slap it on the butt, or whatever works for you).
Step 13 - Go insane playing this crappy 'game'.

That's right 13 steps; this process is more difficult than AA.

LMAO!!

I'm going to have some trouble with these instructions.

1. I don't have carpet.
2. I don't have Deep Blue.

hehe.

Thanks man.   :D  I think the only time I played Deep Blue was when TG 16 was being displayed in Radio Shack in the early days. Is this game even worth buying for its crapiness? hehe

Don't listen to Necromancer.

Deep Blue is actually kind of fun. It's a bit difficult at first but I've made it to the end.

It's truly a one-of-a-kind game.

WHAT?!?  I'm gonna punch you right in the pedro.

Deep Blue is worth having only 'cause it's dirt cheap, as it's arguably the worst Turbo shmup (some would nominate Dragon Spirit, but they're wrong).  Deep Blue has some good looking backgrounds and a varied collection of beautiful fishy enemies, but the music is mediocre at best and crappy at worst.  The ship is slug slow until you pick up a few speed ups, which makes dying an extra kick in the ass, and many places are super cheap where taking a few hits is inevitable (admittedly, the life meter makes this somewhat tolerable).  Deep Blue is deeply flawed, but it's still playable and can be a little fun if you have a masochistic streak.

Actually I don't think it's that cheap. I don't think I've ever really seen it for under $15, unlike some other games.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Really?  I didn't realize that the price had gone up so much.  I've had mine for a while now and only paid about 2 bucks for it (before shipping).
