They need to release Beyond Shadowgate on the virtual console but not as bad as Ys I, II.

So far they haven't released any ICOM games on the VC. Does ICOM still exist?

It doesn't necessarily mean they won't ever release it, but the fact other ICOM games like Ghost Manor haven't shown up probably means something.

This is from Wiki:

ICOM Simulations was formed as TMQ Software[1] in the early 1980s by Tod Zipnick. With the MacVenture series, ICOM pioneered the point-and-click adventure interface and later multiplatform CD-ROM development with Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. The company was acquired in 1993 by Viacom New Media which closed its operations in 1997. Renamed to Rabid Entertainment, VNM/ICOM was dismantled in 1998.

The rights to ICOM's game portfolio is currently held by the company Infinite Ventures.

My guess is, since we haven't seen any ICOM games on the VC yet, Nintendo is having a hard time securing the rights to those games from this Infinite Ventures group.

Damn, I didnt realize there was a Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective part 3 released for the PC.  Just looked at ICOM's game catalog.

Camp California and ShapeShifter are some of ICOM's better games but your right about no ICOM releases on the virtual console.  Nintendo could be having a hard time getting the rights are maybe Nintendo is not even trying?

I think their entire Turbo catalog includes:

Ghost Manor
The Addams Family
Shape Shifter
Camp California
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes 2
Yo' Bro
Beyond Shadowgate

Hmm.. That seems like a short list to me. Maybe I missed a few.

Your not missing any.  Thats all of them.  I believe Shapeshifter was one of the first SuperCDrom titles released in the US next to Gate of Thunder and Shadow of the Beast.

Shapeshifter rules.

But on the rights-securing tip, there are a couple developers we haven't seen any games from on the VC. They did manage to secure rights from Data East, who went under around the same time as ICOM I think which surprised me.

Nothing from Telenet/Renovation yet though or any of the SEGA ports.

So far I've only seen Hudson Soft, Irem, Bandai Namco, and G-mode on the virtual console.  Just pick games that were released by these publishers and you will find future releases for the virtual console.

"G-Mode" is the company that owns the rights to Data East games. I don't think they actually make games, though.

Well there wasnt a huge selection of data east games made for the turbo.  Bloody Wolf is probably their best game for the turbo grafx.

Well, I went to gamefaq and not only does it say it was released in 1993, somebody wrote a faq for it.  Too bad ICOM didnt cap off the trilogy by releasing it for the Turbo Duo.  I remember Sherlock Holmes 2 said SuperCDrom on the cover but you could actually play it on the regular CDRom format.

Yeah, the 2nd game was bi-compatible or something, like Macross 2036 & Terraforming.  Too bad we couldn't somehow get the source code for the 3rd game, & make a release for Turbo :)
