Awesome! Thanks for pointing that one out. I just bought it.

I'm glad that I managed to buy a copy before the imminent explosion of conversation here drives the price to the moon.
Haha, funny but it might also turn out to be true  .

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Wi-wi-wild and crazy game! Pure Japanese hence pure wackiness. Humor apart, the game is a lotta fun to play as well, though it's extremely easy. I think it's the title name of this game that throws it off the awareness chart, though it seems to have gotten a little attention around here lately. It's known for having a cheap price tag too, so pick it up!

I just checked out Keranu's video.... the music for the intro and for level one sounds pretty awesome! It sounds almost like rag-time music, and maybe a bit of really old-school jazz!!!

Funny that a game that we would think is "pure japanese" has such all-american music!

Haha, I should've known you'd like it judging from your name! The whole soundtrack is pretty rag-timeish like that.

that's the original music from the legendary osaka yoshimoto kougyo o-warai (comedy) which run on the tv back then.

Keranu: laurent at vgden says the form of comedy started in 1912, which would explain the music...

Tatsujin, what do you think of the following comments on vgden.com:  :?:

Quote
I am not fully sure about the following, but here we go !..
The whole game is based on a famous japanese comedy shows. Yoshimoto Kogyo is a form of comedy which started in Osaka theaters in 1912. It later spread and this sort of comedy evolved and appeared on NHK public television. Other forms are also known as Manzai (Comedy duo). So Yoshimoto Shinkigeki translates as a comedy theater, and bakushĂ´ means 'burst of laughter'. Furthermore the main character in this game seems to be the japanese actor Hazama Kanpei, and other characters such as Chary Hama appear in the game too (aren't then the same person ?). I am not sure if this game includes every major Yoshimoto names, or just Hazama Kanpei ...

My copy of Bakushou Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki arrived today!!

I really love that opening music. I was a bit disappointed that more of the game music isn't the same style.

The western level is great! I'm really glad I got this game. I didn't play all the way through it (the little lady was hungry so we HAD to go grocery shopping) but that's ok... I'll just have to fire it up again ASAP!

Am I the only one who has gotten his butt kicked in the rock/paper/scissors/pizza throwing game??

That paper/rock/scissors game requires some really good reflexes, so sometimes I do really well and other times I do really bad.

I'm in a rush to catch-up on the last 10-day's worth of posts I missed on these forums, but here's a short list:

Gomola Speed - I'm pretty sure this is a cheap title, and it's just a damn fun game. I praised it here before. If you want a "classic" action -puzzle game with some nice enhancements, then get this. Be forewarned: you may develop blisters on your thumb if you don't play a lot of shooters / platformers.

Bottom line: I think everyone can enjoy this wildly addictive and frenetic game.

-------------------- Not for everyone -----------------------

Mesopotamia / Somer Assault - Again, this is another game that I bring up in these discussions. It is an odd melding of genres, so it certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I love the puzzle+action+shooting+bizzarro mechanics of this game. Some folks will find it boring or tedious or "blah", but I have always been intrigued by it.

Bottom line: This game will only "click" with people who appreciate ___________ ?

-------------------- Adventurous Souls ---------------------

Chris' Adventure (Hihou Densetsu Kris No Bouken) - Wait! Don't crucify me! Initially, I thought this game was infuriating. Maybe it still is. But, for some reason, I've been really into it recently. Perhaps the dearth of platformers available on the PCE has nurtured my unhealthy attraction to this game, but I've been really addicted to it and each time I play I know I can get a *little* bit further, so I keep plugging away. Be forewarned: some of the platforming is incredibly unforgiving (i.e. jumping up on disappearing blocks to get to the next level, the TIME LIMIT that prevents "lame" players from slowly plodding through the game, the hit detection may or may not be accurate -- I can't tell, etc.).

I'm a sucker for the setting of this game, and I think the designers did an adequate job creating some atmosphere. The music complements the setting, and at least one track is pretty kool (so far).

Bottom line: Masochists will enjoy this platformer. Unsung? I don't know. I don't have high expectations for any game that is branded with "Pack-in Video".

The Manhole is a mac adventure/point n click game, it is regaurded for it's
graphics and outcomes. You remember those games, where you clicked and went there and here, then it lead nowhere else. Just for kicks kind of game. I have been looking for it, for awhile. Basically Snatcher but you just wonder around, the place. No pink elephant, or nude women with collars :(.
