My mini-review for Image Fight is up at vgden.com
« on: September 18, 2007, 08:03:39 AM »
Hey everyone, just wanted to let everyone know that I submitted a mini review for Laurent's site, mentioned here: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=3644.15

His website is http://www.vgden.com/index.htm

And my mini review can be found at http://www.vgden.com/hucard/reviews/imf.htm

I really like what Laurent is doing with the site. It has a nice look to it and there is room for historical info about each game.

Not every game is currently covered, but that's probably because there are only two contributors so far, who can be found here: http://www.vgden.com/vgden_st.htm

Laurent is looking for people to help fill out the site, so contact him if you are interested in contributing!

Also, I'd love to hear any comments on my POV for Image Fight!

I came across vgden.com just a little while ago and really liked the mini-reviews.

I for one am going to have to get me a copy of both Image Fight I and II. I love difficult shooters. I'm still banging my head against Nexzr (Summer Carnival 93) and I'm on normal mode.  ](*,) But I like to be challenged. There's nothing worse than beating a game in 20 minutes the first time you play it....Galaga 90 anyone?  :P

Right now I'm working on Blazing Lazers. It's not particularly difficult, but what is making it tricky is that I've been trying to beat it in the span of my 1 hour lunch break. I made it to level 9 yesterday. If I can plow through the game without dying and restarting several times I think I can do it.

Yeah, I forgot to compliment you rag-time on the site. The rollovers are kickass! Seriously, the buttons for the different systems are phenomenal as are the top menu buttons (vgden, reviews, special...).

Great site all in all. Again the reviews are short and sweet. Just how I like 'em.  :D

Once again I'd like to thank all of you for your excellent support :)

I'm also glad rag-time4 is helping me out (great job mate !!!). The more contributors, the better !
If anyone is interested to write short 'point of views' about a game, please don't hesitate to contact me at my email.
I'll list your name and contributions as I did for Eric.
Eric is also going to help me 'correcting' the site. English is not my native language and I'd like to iron out some reviews, especially the first ones I wrote at the beginning, back in 2002...
The site is about to reach its 100000th visitor, and this in two years ! I'd never expected so much support. Thanks again :)

Well, thanks for the compliments on the site, but all I've done is written the little POV for Image Fight... :-"

Laurent has had the site up for some time... I just found about it last week!

I recommend you get a copy of Sinistron. If you can beat this game, you are truly a good shooter player.

BTW, if you have a Japanese system the game is called Violent Soldier.

Fantastic game, BTW. Runinruder knows what I'm talking about.

Sinistron is a very cool game! I have it, but haven't played through it yet. The shield vs spread system is very cool.

Nat, how do you usually play? Do you just play one way all the time or do you actually go back and forth between opening and closing?

Switching based on the situation is the way to go.  I keep my shields in the "halfway" position most of the time, but there are some cases where it's best to switch.  For example, keeping the shields closed while you have the blue energy weapon will produce a slender, concentrated beam that can quickly annihilate some of the bosses.

Runinruder hit it spot-on, although it sounds like I'm probably more twitchy with the "jaws" than he is. I'm constantly flipping them open and closed depending on what I've got coming at me and what weapon I've got.

The blue laser weapon is by far the most powerful. For example, in stage 3 I'll actually play through most of the level with the jaws closed completely and the blue laser equipped. I'll open it briefly all the way at one or two spots where the tunnel opens up and there are lots of enemies to deal with. Close it back up for the boss which if you know where to position yourself can be eliminated in mere seconds with the laser beam.

I wonder if the game is even winnable if you try to play through without utilizing the jaws. I probably wouldn't be able to do it.

OK, just watched a clip of Sinistron on Youtube. Though I didn't watch all of it as it was the ending clip. Don't want to see the ending unless I've beaten it. hehe  8) But it looks awesome. Reminds me of Splatterhouse in the graphics and music.

Sinistron is twice the game Splatterhouse could ever hope to be.

Sinistron gave me mixed emotions. I though the sound effects sucked and the music wasn't very impressive. The graphics didn't win me over either. At the same time, it was ass hard and it did keep me coming back for more, so there was clearly a hook, some kind of appeal, in there somewhere.
