Which do you prefer? What do you guys think?
The bosses in II look amazing , but the game play might be a little better in the first one.

The graphics, gameplay, sound, and overall feel of the second is quite superior. It's easier, but only because the first one is flawed by design and is more difficult because of that (very bad coldet, mostly).

This one's a toughie. The 2nd is easier to pick up and put down and a little easier to play, but I kinda like the way speed and power work in the 1st one over the multiple weapon system of the 2nd. The 1st game had a more thoughtful, patient combat strategy to it, IMO, whereas in the 2nd it was more, I dunno... FLAIL!

I realy like the first one all round.

I've never really liked the second game all round, but I haven't played through it since it came out.

Both are great games in their own right, and I can't choose one over the other. I am not voting-- that would be an injustice to whichever one I don't pick.

I'm leaning to vote for the first one, but I'm just not sure.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I voted for the first one.  The sequel has better audio/visuals but it feels like a different game.. but that's not a bad thing.

Turbo D chooses the first one. He likes how its unique. The second one feels like a different game and should of had a different name in stead of being part 2 in the series

I voted for II, but neither one really floats my boat.  They're not bad by any means, but I wouldn't call 'em phenomenal either.

The first one definately has the nicer graphics, both have great sound but Ankoku Densetsu has the better music.

I didn't much like Ankoku Densetsu until recenly when I replayed it for my site update it. I've changed my opinion completely and think it's a great, atmospheric action platformer, despite the graphics being pretty dull and the sprites badly drawn.

I only own the first one, but never got into it. It seemed very cheap, so I got frustrated with it. To be fair, I only played it for about a half hour. One day i'll give it another go.

It IS a different game. I don't believe they are really linked in any way; the original names don't lend themselves to it. I think they just needed an excuse to tack on the sequel label for us westerners. :D
