Synths are not a cheap hobby because you're never satisfied.
Hell yes man, you speak the truth. They're also not a cheap hobby because a lot of the synth community sets ridiculously expensive prices on parts. We basically have to accept we'll never have a cool modular synth, unless we want to sell our house.
But right now the synth I would kill for the most is the Korg X5D or the Korg 01/W. This keyboard family is basically responsible for all the digital synthlead driven arcade rock of the videogames of the 1990's. If I can get that, a Yamaha TG500, a Roland SoundCanvas SC-88Pro, an E-MU Extreme Lead X-1 Turbo, and Alesis QS6.2 with VintageSynth, Hiphop and Eurodance expansions, I WILL BE THE DIGITAL 90'S MASTER!!!!
