PCE Core question
« on: September 23, 2007, 09:52:51 AM »
Can the PCE Core do stereo audio, or is that something they added in Core II? I only have a composite video w/mono cable and I'm wondering if I could get and plug in a stereo one.

The Core and Core II are functionally identical - they both feature AV out.

The color of the case and CoreGrafx logo are different. They are otherwise identical.

It's no different than the purple/black GameCube situation.

Pick a Core or Core II based on which color scheme you like better. Because that's the only difference you get.

Did the Core II come out later? If it did, maybe it featured a refined manufacturing process and thus lower production costs.

Well, yeah it came out after (hence the II ) :)  And you are probably right.

The Core II's case is a tad different, too.  It also looks and fits better with the Super CDROM2 add-on, IMO.

I personally prefer the color and styling of the first. It matches the SuperGrafx.

Agree. "Core" grafx and "Super" grafx. I think the released date was very close between the two - probably why they share the same/similar color scheme. Core grafx > Core grafx II.

Did they specificaly tag the name "Grafx" on those systems in relation to the Turbo Grafx 16?

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Turbo Grafx is the best of the Grafx family of consoles.  Only it was powerful enough to run US games without screwing with the innards.

The list goes like this:

TurboGrafx
CoreGrafx
CoreGrafx2  (I assume this machine had dual cores or something)
SuperGrafx

They all wanted to copy the US so badly that they used "Grafx" as part of their name.  Everyone is always jealous of the US.

Damn straight  8) !

EDIT: It should also be noticed that "Turbo" is a much more powerful word to describe high quality graphics, as opposed to "core" and "super". Hence the American Turbo Grafx 16 has better graphics than it's Japanese counter parts.
