"Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure" High Scores
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:08:24 AM »

1,329,280 - Necromancer
885,060 - Nat

This is another game-winning final score. Apparently there is no point bonus for defeating King Drool. My game was won on one credit with 42 lives in reserve. Unfortunately, no screen shot for this one.

Ah, good call.

I own the HuCard version only. Does the CD version add anything that would significantly affect your final score?

If memory serves, I thought the difficulty was altered in the CD version (harder?) but I'm not 100% sure.

I might, but I'd have to play it in an emulator. It's been years since I've played it too.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

How can we be sure you won't use save states to cheat?

Because that game is so easy that the game is programmed for emulators to be unable to use save states for it. :)

Challenge accepted!  I had to play on Magic Engine, as I don't have the HuCard version or a digital camera to capture my skillz.  You'll have to take my word that I didn't abuse save states, but like Keranu said, this game is so easy that nobody needs to cheat.  To really raise the ol' point tally I exploited the bonus rounds like a mo-fo.  The springy flower bonus round is good for 12,400 points and ten more smileys, so when you reach the end of level with 80-90 smileys you can tack on an extra 200,000 points or so.

1,329,280 points and 77 extra lives (I died two more times before King Drool went down).

Bastard!

I should note I only play the bonus games generally when I pick up a purple flower in-game. I always skip them when given the chance at the end of a level. Obvioulsy that's where you took me for all I was worth.

But now.... It's on like Donkey Kong, bitch.

Double damn!  I shouldn't be giving away my super sexy secret tactics.  :x

I'm gonna fire up Bonk 3 CD tonight and see how I do on the real deal.  I'm curious to see if it's any harder - it can't get any easier.

I played again and only managed to get 885,060:

You must be some kind of animal or something. It took me like four hours to play through the game to get that score. I had to take a one hour break like halfway through.

I was up 'til 2 a.m. Tuesday morning beating Bonk 3 CD on the Duo.  I don't know if the difficulty is any harder, but I didn't do quite as well (1,092,980 points and 48 left over lives).  I f'd up on level 3-3 (I think, it's the one with a bunch of extra bonks on either side of the exit elevator), missing out on at least 20 smileys and a dozen extra lives.  Don't ever pick up the flower copter thingy when you're still full size - makes it impossible to get to the other areas.  I was also having a hard time consistently completing the springy flower bonus round, so I switched to the jet roller pipe one.  It's worth 400 less points, but I could pull it off 95% of the time.

From your testimony I'm going to assume that the CD version isn't any harder than the cart as you probably would've noticed an increase in difficulty. I'll leave your high score the way it is on the list.

The only one of the bonus rounds I can't complete consistently is the one where you have to bounce off the walls up the area, and the sections are moving. All the others are cake to me at this point.
