Great work man.  I always dreamed of doing something like that.  What was the software you said you used to create the auto-launching menu system?  You never named it, and I'd love to give it a try.

Hi there :)

Glad you like the yogs :)

The software that I used for the menus is called 'quick menu builder' and is freeware (you need to register for certain options but it does do the job for the most part...)

Seeing as its freeware I've uploaded it for you to save you the hassle of looking for it :)

Can get it here...

I seem to remember someone saying somewhere at sometime that there might be a keygen floating in cyberspace somewhere.......

I didnt say that ;)

All the best

Andy

Thanks a lot!  I can't wait to try it out for my own purposes.  For instance, it would be nice to have my computer running in "kiosk" mode when there's a party at the house so that friends can play all the emulators and games they like but won't be surfing the net to god knows where downloading whatever and emailing whoever from my address.

Hi jammy :)

The program I used to take control of the mouse with the joypad is 'joystick2mouseIII' or something..

Again it's freeware so I've uploaded it for you (I was meaning to upload all the apps before but did'nt get around to it...)
Can be found here...

I've thought alot about the next project tbh, it's difficult deciding on exactly what I want to do because it takes so much energy and effort that it really *has* to be something that wont be left to gather dust afterwards.

I have had some problems with YOGS, namely magic engine doesnt run so well (onboard graphics card is poo) and snes seems to lag aswell, which is totally bizarre because the neo geo system runs at full pelt with no flaws at all  :?: and so does genesis.

I did plan out 'YOGS2' which is to be a modular system that uses tiny units that can be plugged in as you need them (cdr, hard drive trays etc) and also an external PSU this time but don't have the funds to pull it off yet (gonna be well over $150 :(  )

One thing you need to bear in mind is that when using a pad to control your mouse pointer you automatically cant use certain emulators.
Reason? well some emus will start waving a mouse pointer over the screen when youre playing with the joypad (it acts as both remember..)

So here Ill list what emus I found to be the best for joypad control :)

Megadrive/Genesis - Kega lazarus
Neo Geo - Neo Ragex 0.6 or 0.8
Snes - Zsnes (do not use snes9x with joy2mouse)
Pc engine - Magic engine.

HTH :)

Just remember that its very buggy and poorly documented lol.

The author isnt english and thus, doesnt speak or program with clear english.

IIRC it basically involves using one JPEG image as the backdrop, which you have to load twice, then you use a square select tool to drag a size for your invisible button.
You then add as many invisible squares as you need, name them and then program in the exe launch string IE if your megadrive emu was named MD.exe c:\programfiles\md.exe

Once you have finished adding all your emus to the commands you save it out. From there a little hand will appear over the invisible button :)

The trick I used for yogs was to dump this created menu into 'startup' on win98 so it auto launches as soon as windows has booted.
I then hid the taskbar and removed all of the removable desktop icons, leaving only the ones you cannot delete.
Then I used a icon that looked like a rom chip for 'my computer' and renamed it 'maintainance' and a snes reset button for the recycle bin and renamed it 'old files'

It looks pretty swish :)

Maybe you know this, maybe you don't.  If you were using an NT platform like 2000 or XP, you could download the free Microsoft "Powertool" called TweakUI, and then even the trash can can be invisible from the desktop.  It would give you loads more control over the destop before and after your autolaunched YOGS.

I'm really hyped to try it out tonight.  Thanks for all your advice.

I did think of that tbh, but the hardware in yogs is pretty sh*t :D

I had xp on it when it was still a computer and it was terrible, 2k would probably be better but the system is pretty poor and I needed every last bit of juice out of it.

The nice thing was that 98 can be customised easily, I ripped out practically *everything* on the way in.

No paint, no dial up networking, no nothing, literally.

I have also designed a load up and shut down screen, so you would never even know it was windows (and let's be honest windows is sh*t)

Yogs 2 will most probably run a flavor of linux and will be at least 700mhz :)

This has nothing to do with the PC-FX...moved to the correct forum.
