Your top 5 favorite bands/groups/artists/composers.
« on: October 08, 2007, 10:05:54 PM »
Just like it says. Top 5 fave musicians. Each entry can be a entire band/group or a single person. Any genre, even video game music.

It doesn't have to be ranked either. Just your top 5.

But these are the rules, and you shall not break them:

1. ONLY 5 (FIVE). There is always some dumbass who breaks this rule. READ. ONLY 5 ENTRIES. THE END. One post per person, also.

2. No ties, no exceptions. Flip a coin if you have to. There is ONE group/artist per entry. Don't like it? Don't post.

Sorry to be so blunt and mean, but the last forum RUINED this thead. You guys are smart. Don't ruin the thread please.

My faves:

1. The Chemical Brothers
2. Pendulum
3. The Crystal Method
4. Propellerheads
5. The Prodigy

So yeah, I guess I like Big Beat. ^___^

So is it three, or five?

This is nearly impossible:

New Order
Blackalicious
Saul Williams
The Smiths
They Might Be Giants

Yeah.. that confused the hell out of me.  I tried to keep it down to
three entries and five members.  Maybe it's a trick question.

It's five since Kitsunexus listed 5 of his own. Damn, I really don't know which 5 to choose. I gonna need more time to narrow this down.  :-k

New Order
Blackalicious
Saul Williams
The Smiths
They Might Be Giants

Nice picks SignOfZeta.  :) New Order/Joy Division are my favourites. Have you seen "Control" yet? And my brother told me there's a new Joy Division documentary out now on DVD. MUST SEE!!

They Might Be Giants is also a great band. Flood was their best IMHO, though I haven't heard much from them aside from their Malcolm In the Middle and Homestar Runner themes. The Smiths are also amazing.

So my top five:

New Order/Joy Division (two different bands, yet deserve to be together. OK I'm cheating.)
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Air
Belle and Sebastian
Magnetic Fields

Very hard to narrow down to the top five. I know I'm forgetting or leaving out favourites, but it gives an idea.  :)

I don't know. I'm kind of burned out on 25 years if analyzing a band that was only together for two or three. Also, I think 24 Hour Party People is about the best JD/NO/Factory thing possible. I'm waiting for a Region 1 reprint or HD release before I buy it though because I won't have that horrible cover in my collection.

Helmet
Tool
Failure
Alice in Chains
Nirvana

Great picks... Almost every one of those bands has been in my "top 5" at one point or another. And still, they are all pretty high up there. Except Failure. Never heard of them before.

I saw Tool live back in 2000 (or was it 01?). Good show, but they didn't play a single song from Undertow, which remains my favorite Tool album. Opiate is good too, and they even played a song or two from that. Some of the imagery that accompanied the concert itself was just killer. The had people dangling from the f*cking ceiling!

In 2001 (or was it 02?) I saw the surviving members of Alice in Chains play a show here in Seattle shortly after Layne Stayley died. It was a touching concert, they played some of the classics, and a few of Jerry Cantrell's "solo" stuff.

As for my list.... At this particular moment, would probably have to go something like this, in no particular order:

Stone Temple Pilots
Blue Oyster Cult
Pink Floyd
Queensryche
Faith No More
