About the old-vs-new CD player fight:

Back in the day, CD players used to be much more of a luxury item, and therefore the players were higher quality.

As time went on, CD players became commoditized and cheaper; to fill the demand, CD players got cheaper too. Compare the PS and Saturn CD players: the cheaper Sony system tends to have problems with its player (Anyone remember people tilting their Playstations?) but I've never seen a Saturn with the same problem. It was more expensive, and of higher quality.

So, the only reason old CD players seem to last longer is because they were better equipment to begin with, and the ones that failed ended up in dumpsters.

Super werd re: hardware, guyjin.

The Sega-CD had some superb games, but the shit to shine quotient was way too high.  Some of the best games were still a waste of the hardware, as they weren't much better than what could've been done (or already had been done) on cartridge.

P.S. - Sheesh!  Can't we all just get along?  Or at least act civilized?  Grow the hell up, or I'll kick all y'all asses over by the swing set after school.

Prince of Persia (And the best damn version you can find at that!) - it's POP... crap

You're a hero for saying that. It's Prince of Persia. So true... Such a HORRIBLE game! For ANY format. Especially Mega-CD.

Okay, FM-77, I've dealt with your weird gaming tastes before, but this takes the cake. This time you have gone too far!

I LOVE Prince of Persia! I bet the only reason you don't like it is probably because you played for five minutes and left throwing a fit because you couldn't get used to the controls, right? Yes, I admit that the controls could have been better thought up, but once you get used to them, they work fine. The game is a classic. I loved the feeling of having to explore the palace while trying to quickly and effectively get through the levels. But I will admit it, yeah, the voice acting in the Sega CD version was the worst acting I've ever seen, worse than the infamous Resident Evil intro. The villain's name is Jaffa now? WTF!?

And before you start getting defensive, let me remind you, that you panned the Metal Gear series based on one reason: you couldn't figure out the controls. When I first played MGS3 on my PS2, I was fine with the controls. I was blown away by the sense of realism in a fantasy world at times. I still have fond memories of playing it for the first time.

Now, I'm not saying that anyone here sucks, or that they're stupid, but please, PLEASE don't act like you're the ultimate authority on why a game sucks. I can understand not liking a game, and explaining why you don't like it, but don't state that a game sucks, as if it's a fact. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a horrible game. Everyone has games that many people like that they absolutely hate, and everyone has games that are mostly panned that are guilty pleasures for them.

I actually once met a guy who said that Snatcher sucks. Doesn't mean it does.

If you have read all this and learned something, I salute you. If you just saw that this post was long and skipped it so you wouldn't have to deal with my ranting, you can go to hell for all I care.

Jedite's awesome, and he's cooler than AVGN. And Jedite's ESPECIALLY cooler than you'll ever be. You know, you remind me of THIS scumbag:

You can not be serious..  you actually think that guy's cool!? As far as AVGN, who the hell cares (did I miss something here?). He's not a serious reviewer - far from it. He's just poking fun at games. People who take serious offense to his "reviews" need to get some counselling. Also who the hell is that guy and how the hell do I remind you of him? You don't even know anything about me  :-s

Because he's just like you. He hates on alot of games that aren't bad at all, which is what you did when you said games like LE I & II and Prince of Persia sucked.

Spider-Man had a song by Eric Martin in it!

Who cares?  That song is probably the worst part about the music.  Granted I do like some of the tracks in Spider-Man.  It's no Lords of Thunder, but there are some good licks.

What do you mean who cares? He was the lead singer for Mr. Big, and they were an awesome band.

Seriously, the Sega Cd was awesome, even with all the garbage on it its quality title selection more then matches the US Turbo Cd and Duo selection. There was alot of fun to be had with it. ONLY fanboys would hate it. What the Sega Cd coulda used was more of the Jap Mega Cd titles, but as it stands there was more then enough to keep anyone happy with it,for it being a add on system.

Its just like people trashing the 32X. The 32X even with the limited titles released on it had some real keepers, and back when it was released,it was THE way to have Star Wars Arcade,no other system got it. Also its port of VR racing was awesome, along with VF,After Burner,Space Harrier,MK 2,NBA Jam TE,WWF Arcade Game,Primal Rage,Shadow Squadron, and Blackthorne. There are others, but those titles there were enough for me to warrant the purchase of it as a add on. I mean shit, people paid almost $110 just for the Genesis VR Racing release, spending $50 more to have access to better cart ports of some of that stuff was def worth it.

I still to this day feel the 32X was a good stop gap at getting people used to the Idea of 3d gaming, without totally busting their wallets.Even with the limited titles,it helped breath a little life into the system.  Alot of people got the 32X to be able to play stuff like VR racing and Doom, and these people also couldn't afford a Saturn or PS1 sometimes and the only other option was a Jaguar price wise. As much as I like the Jag,any day of the week I would rather have a Genesis and 32X combo..

I wonder if anyone else sees the irony in the first part of the subject line in this thread.

I agree with pretty much everything Michael said. Even if by anyone's judgement the Sega-CD's overall line up of decent games doesn't match the Turbo CD, at the very least its not far off. The 32X actually got a ton of games, even though few were very special, most were actually decent.

To me it doesn't matter if another competing console has more to offer, all I care about is entertaining games and if a cheap system has at least one I'll buy it.

Yeah I know, but I barely even remember Mr. Big.  They weren't very popular.  I think Warrant out-hairmetaled/glamrocked them. ;)  All I know is that the song on Spider-Man isn't that great.  I actually like the song on Funky Horror Band much better, and it's in Japanese!
