The SMS can't flip sprites.  Genesis remedied that shortfall.

it was simply that Genesis Special Champion Edition had 24 megabits of ROM,   50% more than said in Secret 33.

Street Fighter II cartridges have been known to gradually decrease in mega-power over time.
