Nats right, music today sucks. I think that I have only bought about 2 or 3 cds since 2000, haha.

Yeah, that's about how it went for me. Except I rented tapes & CDs from the library and then dubbed them onto blank tapes if I liked 'em. I had a massive collection of music on recordable cassettes at one point.

Haha. I forgot about doing that when I was younger. Also when I was a kid I was lucky since my brother and his friends worked at record stores and would give me their staff discounts. 50% off was sweet. A ton of my CDs are from those days...obviously.

Most of today's music is trash. A lot of music I buy is 60s jazz (Jimmy Smith, Kenny Burrell, Italian B movie soundtracks, etc.). You really have to dig deep nowadays to find anything worth the effort it takes to press play.

While there's no denying illegal downloading of songs has a small impact on record sales, if everyone's ability to download said songs suddenly disappeared I don't think you'd see much of a spike in record sales. Put simply, 90% of the music out today just isn't worth the money.

So, you honestly believe that if the downloading of songs was impossible, then everyone would abandon their ipods, zunes, and what not?  Perhaps, but then those people would return to the radio, raising advertising revenue and, in turn, the record companies' profits.

Most of the top selling albums of the 90's are just as crappy as what's being churned out today.  Who ever liked listening to Whitney Houston, Alanis Morissette, Hootie & the Blowfish, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Kenny G, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, TLC, MC Hammer, Michael Bolton, or the shit stains known as Creed?

Hey now I love MC Hammer and Whitney Houston!

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

1. This pisses me, as Demonoid was the only torrent site I ever went to.

2. Who the f*ck gives a shit about what Canada thinks? The only thing more pussy than these Canadian lawyers is the fact that DEMONOID PUSSIED OUT TO CANADIAN LAWYERS. Seriously, it's f*cking CANADA! OMG, CURLING BROOMS, HOCKEY STICKS AND TASERS! DON'T TASE ME BRO! AAAAAAAH!

Demonoid DESERVES to be shut down for this.

Probably not, but they'd find other ways. For example, go to the library like we used to do in the old days!  :D

I disagree. But as a matter of fact-- I like TLC. But don't tell anyone. And only their first two albums. None of that "Fan Mail" or "Scrubs" shit. MC Hammer deserves a mention for "Can't Touch This" which is good, if only for the cheese factor alone.

Most of the artists you listed are shit, I will not argue. But you listed the crappiest "popular" artists of the 90's. You can find shitty artists from ANY decade. I am saying that there are 90% more shitty artists today than there were in previous decades.

My point is that before 2000 (or 1995-2000) there was simply more music worth paying for. It's almost like the music industry has adapted to the fact that they think everyone will illegally acquire their music anyway so they produce craptacular songs to accommodate.

Anything I'd buy on CD usually can't be found in most stores down here. I will agree that popular music has taken a major nosedive in the last decade, so in order to find good modern music, you have to look at the underground scenes. I also think that anyone who jumps on a hate-for-a-particular-band bandwagon is an idiot.

Demonoid was a pretty poor torrent site, but it still sucks they were taken down. And death metal is only getting better and better by every year, so I'm not complaining about music from 2000 or later. In fact, 99% of the music I listen to nowadays is from 2000 or (usually) later. Who gives a shit what is being played on the radio? ALL of that music has ALWAYS sucked, regardless of the year it was produced.

We didn't get music like this in the 90's

Music sucks 90% more now than it did in the first part of the '90s and before. Music has been on a steep and steady decline since 1995 or so. The music industry in 2007 consists mainly of a bunch of lameasses with gold teeth making up words and spouting shit that doesn't even make sense about clubs and bitches.

My point is that it's no wonder less people are buying music today than ten years ago. It's all crap. But people still listen to it because that's what's "popular." They aren't motivated to buy it because next week something else will be "mad dope." How many CDs have you bought that were produced in the 90's and earlier? How many CDs do you own that were produced since 2000? In the last 7 years I can probably count on my two hands how many CDs I've bought. In the 90's I bought literally hundreds.

I will buy an album if I think it's worth the money and I want to support the artist. Despite the availability of illegal downloads online, I think the majority of the population feels the same way I do. You want to encourage your favorite artists to continue to produce good music so you pay the asking price for their album. During the grunge and alt rock era one of my favorite things to do was go to the local CD store and see what kind of cool imports or obscure records I could pick up.

While there's no denying illegal downloading of songs has a small impact on record sales, if everyone's ability to download said songs suddenly disappeared I don't think you'd see much of a spike in record sales. Put simply, 90% of the music out today just isn't worth the money.

Perhaps, but the fact remains that popular music today blows nuts.

Right now I'm listening to an MP3 rip of Within Temptation - The Heart Of Everything. I cannot find this disc or ANY of their discs in stores down here. Yes, it's modern music, but you don't hear it on the radio down here (no idea about anywhere else), and I love it. Of course, there's a "Within Temptation sucks!" bandwagon I've come across a great number of times..."they cater to the goth fags!" is the usual crap I see/hear people say. f*ck the haters. I also like a few songs by Creed but I doubt I'd buy any of their albums...not enough good songs to keep my interest.
