I don't get why everyone seems so "pissed" over a Mario phone call, haha. You only get one if you pre-ordered it from GameStop right? I actually think that's a good idea since it lets you know when you can pick up your game. I wonder if they're going to do that for Smash Bros?

I think SMB2 might be my favorite too. I liked New Super Mario Bros., but it still wasn't quite what I wanted.

It was deffinitly what I was looking for, since, there hasn't been a 2D Mario in ages.  But, I'd love to see a direct sequal to SMB2.
What I really love about it is how the game takes a lot of inspiration from SMB1 and 3 to give it that "quiet feel". My favorite was how before each level a blank screen would appear showing a Mario face and how many lives he has left. It's also pretty straight forward and easy to jump right into the game, which is something that's desperately needed for games these days! I just wish the game wouldn't give you so many 1-ups and reset them when you restart and controlled more like the NES ones. I was so glad to hear that there was no Yoshi and other new skool Mario characters, though for some reason they still included King Koopa's son or whatever he is.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I thought the controls on NSMB were just sloppy. It ruined it for me.

I was so glad to hear that there was no Yoshi

Yoshi is a douche. Or rather, he became a douche. In SMW and SMW2 he was pretty cool. Yoshi's Story is pretty badass I guess.

The worst thing that happened to the Mario franchise was when they gave everybody voices. I always thought of the Mario world kind of like it was portrayed in the movie. Then they started adding voices to everyone and everything and it started feeling like a bunch of f*cking toddlers or something. I thought the GBA "Advance" remakes of the classic 2D Mario games were pretty damn cool. Except for the voices. I can't even playing the friggin' things because of them, despite the games themselves being what I would consider the "definitive" versions of said titles. I always loved Luigi's jumping in SMB2, and they "fixed" the other games in the "Advance" series so his jumping was consistently high. I've heard people say that high jump sucks because you can't control it. I say those people are whiny losers that don't know how to play video games. When utilized properly, that high jump was the most useful tool in SMB2, hands down.

Does anyone know: is there any kind of cheat or option to disable the voices in the Advance titles?

I agree that Mario looks like a toddler.  His body is that of a 2 to 3 year old with a mustache and giant gloves.

Toddler.

Because instead of a simple "Hey, it's a me-ah Mario, your copy of Super Mario Galaxy is at Gamestop today! Come pick-ah eet up!", it was an entirely too long and retarded message.

Yeah the little Mario voice bits suck, they should be more like the cartoon. And for the record, Mario ain't Italian. From Donkey Kong until the first Super Mario Bros., he was Polish and then after that he became Mexican.

So hang up the phone afterwards :P .

I'll wait to pass verdict on Galaxy until I play it, but as of now, I'll take a 2D Mario adventure over any of the 3D incarnations.

I got SMG yesterday as a birthday gift and I have to say, it's pretty damn awesome. I played for a good few hours today. Certainly light years better than Sunshine, and dare I say, better than Mario 64.

The controls are actually pretty standard with relatively little "Wii gimmicky" stuff thrown in, and what is, seems to mix really well with the standard stuff. Joe wasn't kidding when he said it's one of the best looking Wii games so far. Graphics are really, really sharp.

The one downfall for me is the game is kind of easy. The toughest part I've encountered so far is where you have to surf on the back of this sting-ray down these rapids that are suspended in mid-air. There are no sides so if you fall off, you die. Think of the Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 64. This part was a welcome challenge, because the 8 or so stars I collected before that were just a breeze to get. Still, the rapids weren't too tough and I nailed it easily after a couple tries.

So far, great game overall, a must-own for anyone with a Wii.

Yeah I agree, way too easy with the exception of the sting ray part (took me about five tries to beat). Fun game, but I haven't been playing lately since I've had strep throat all week.

That's funny!  But people really shouldn't take that the wrong way.  The best looking woman in Gnome, Alaska could be damn fine, there just aren't many hot women there.

Also, I'm pretty sure I beat that stingray stage on my first try.  The swimming and flying in the game sucks, though.  The swimming is OK if you have a shell.  I may have already said that (seems familiar).

Fixed twice.

And that's what I'm saying though, the hottest graphics on Wii aren't really that hot.

I've seen a Wii in action, so I know that it exists (unlike Gnome, Alaska).  Perhaps you meant Nome, Alaska, in which case there's bound to be a few lookers out of a population of 3500.  Anyway, don't be such a graphics whore; the Wii can produce equal or better graphics than any console other than the 360 and the PS3.

And honestly, the graphics in SMG are up there with what I've seen on the 360.

No I meant "Gnome, Alaska". Gnomes are ugly little creatures.

Nat you must have only seen Cabella's African Safari so far then, you should check out Gears of War or Assassin's Creed and then play Mario again.
