why the hell...
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:11:34 PM »
..is some GUEST on PCEFX at 3:00 in the morning PRINTING out old topics?  :-s  :?

This dude is like on, EVERY night, printing out the most obscure threads...have a looksee (click to expand):

The main scenarios I can come up with:

1. It's one of our members who can't log on at this time for some reason printing out favorite threads for reading material.

2. It's the world's most eco-unfriendly Googlebot.

3. It's a lawyer trying to get evidence to do something to PCEFX.  :x

As long as it's not scenario #3, I have nothing against Mr. Printer, but he is certainly very eccentric! And he should use Save Page As and back up to DVD-R instead of printing, IMO.

I don't know how many people use this screen (you get to it by clicking the online user count) but if you get lucky you see some WEIRD crap go on there.

It's just Aaron backing up the site.  If the site ever crashes, he'll just rescan everything and we'll be back in no time!

Seriously though, it's likely a bot spidering the site.  Remember that they click on EVERY link that's available to them.  Once they click on the print link, there's nowhere else to go so it stays there on the WHO'S ONLINE list.

That makes sense. The scanning thing I mean. ;)

Wanna know what's even more eccentric?  Some dude named Kitsunexus keeps checking to see what other users are up to.  Weird, eh?

Hahaha, yeah, Joe is right though. If you ever do a Google search for topics from this forum the results you get will be the same page you would get as if you went to "Print" a topic.

Haha, I've actually taken a bunch of screenshots in the past of these mysterious people who like to print topics. They're probably just bots or something.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Kitsunexus, thanks for pointing this out.

This brings up a good point - if anyone sees anything strange or out of the ordinary occuring on the forums, please feel free to post a thread about it and/or contact me personally so that I can put it on my radar.
