RE: Tekkonkinkreet: I am scared at night that those characters will jump out and eat me. THEY'RE JUST TOO FREAKY!

Also, Escape From New York and Escape From L.A. are WONDERFULLY AWESOME movies, with the latter having a http://www.eccentric-cinema.com/downloads/Escape%20from%20LA.mp3
of the former's theme song.

Should be interesting to hear what you guys think of Paprika after you've seen it. I have a feeling it's gonna be a real love it or hate it type of thing. I thought that the character designs in Tekkonkinkreet were at least interesting in that they were different than similar movies. I will agree that at first I thought the animation was a little weak though by the end of the movie I didn't care.

On a totally different note, watched Superbad the other day. Thought it was pretty funny.

Superbad is one of the funniest movies released in a long, long time. To be completely honest I thought it was going to be one of those stupid high school movies that relied on tits and ass and lame attempts at humor that, more often than not, failed.

What I found instead is a movie that actually has a hint of intelligence and some of the funniest character moments ever to grace movies as we know them. The humor was spot-on and hit the ball out of the park nearly 100% of the time which is more than you can say for it's contemporaries. I've seen it twice now and I bought the DVD the day it was released.

Superbad is like a Jenga tower. If you remove just one piece, the whole thing could fall apart.

Superbad was awesome.  I also loved Hot Rod- the fight dance scene was the closest I've ever come to literally pissing myself laughing, I thought I was going to f*cking die.  I think I'm wired to find fight dancing incredibly awesome, I just finished watching Flight of the Conchords and the episode where Bret fight dances out his anger had me in tears.

Funny that you mention that, because we just rented and watched Hot Rod last night. It had it's moments, but I liked Superbad better.

From what I've seen on Youtube, I love it. I hope some company releases an English dub of it here.

Its out on Blu Ray this month, I have it on my netflix list, so I assume there's a DVD out too.  Is it not dubbed or something?  I always watch anime subtitled anyway, but I know some people like dubs too.  I thought they did dual jap/english audio on all anime DVDs now.

Paprika is out on both Blu Ray and regular DVD here in the USA but I watched it subtitled so couldn't tell you about the dub. The special features are pretty interesting on the dvd too. I did find this list of features for the Blu Ray disc on the animeondvd website -

    * Japanese 5.1 TrueHD Language
    * English 5.1 TrueHD Language
    * Chinese (Cantonese) 5.1 Language
    * Chinese (Mandarin -Taiwan) 5.1 Language
    * French (Parisian) 5.1 Language
    * Portuguese (Brazil) 5.1 Language
    * Spanish (Latin Am) 5.1 Language
    * Thai 5.1 Language
    * English Subtitles
    * Tsutsui and Kon's Paprika: A behind-the-scenes look at the making of Paprika with novelist Yasutaka Tsutsui and director Satoshi Kon
    * A Conversation about The Dream: Director Satoshi Kon novelist Yasutaka Tsutsui and voice actors Megumi Hayashibara and Toru Furuya talk about production of Paprika
    * The Art of Fantasy: A look at the art direction with Art Director Nobutaka Ike
    * The Dream CG World; A look at the cinematography and computer-generated world of Paprika with cinematographer Michiya Kato

As for Superbad, I know a guy we've now nicknamed "McLovin" because he acts so much like the kid in the movie.  :lol:

Just saw the 1973 Fantastic Planet for the first time last night.  I highly recommend it - as long as you go in knowing that the ending is ludicrously abrupt and cheap.  The animation is great- looks like Dali meets Gilliam meets the old Star Trek cartoons.  It was funny- while watching it my girlfriend screamed out- "that guy has a penis slung over his shoulder!", replaying the scene- in which a bunch of humans (or Ohms) are standing around debating- sure enough one of the guys standing there had what appeared to be a big penis slung over his shoulder.  Highly unusual to say the least.

He's probably just like me, no pants will fit his enormity.  8)

Crank, was for lack of a better word, f*ckING AMAZINGLY AWESOME. I am so glad I bought that.

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within is actually pretty good too, even though it has NOTHING to do with Final Fantasy. I wonder if that's the only reason people dump on it so much, taken outside the Final Fantasy context it's a great movie, much like how the Mario Bros. movie is a great movie when you forget it's based on Mario. Also I forgot it had Steve Buscemi in it! HE RULES.

I haven't watched Advent Children yet, that's for tommorrow.

Just watched Paprika today on blu-ray (awesome transfer, looked incredible) and it was amazing, I didn't know it was by the guy who did Millennium Actress so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out.  I need to rent Tokyo Godfathers next, I had no idea he did that one too until I saw the ad in Paprika.

Screw that dude, it's by the Cowboy Bebop/Trigun people, of course it's good!
