The top 10 of most rare and expensive games for the PC-FX
« on: January 03, 2008, 12:22:59 AM »
Can everybody give me what in their opinion is the top 10 (or 5) of most rare and expensive PC-FX games are? with price indications if possible (but not needed) ?

I just want to continue with the collection I already had and I want to see where and when I will be ripped off in case of rareness/prices.

Thanks!

Let me go first then with the default lineup: (correct me if im wrong)

1. Zeroigar ($150-250)
2. Zenki ($120-200)
3. Chip Chan Kick! ($120-200)
4. Super Real Mahjong PV FX ($120-200)
5. Dragon Knight IV ($120-200)

6+ Maybe Anime Freak 4/5/6 ? Can Can Bunny Deluxe and Princess Rolfee? ($50-120)

Dragon Knight IV? Really? Those look like common eBay BIN prices. I think the games are valued a bit less than that. If you are patient you can surely find better deals. My friend used to live in Japan and he picked up virtually all the PC-FX titles I own for me in Akihabara. This is about what I paid:

Zenki - $120 (mint/perfect/like new)
Chip Can Kick - $80-$90 (don't recall precisely, but it was below $100)
Zeroigar - $50
Dragon Knight IV - $40 (? hard to say, definitely wasn't very much, well below $100)
Can Can Bunny Deluxe - about the same as DK IV, maybe a bit less like $20-$30

The "big three" would definitely be Zenki/Zeroigar/CCK. As you can see, I paid more for Zenki than anything else. Beyond the "big three" I think if you're patient you can find any PC-FX title for peanuts. The rest of my PC-FX library I was either given free or bought for pocket change.

Oh, I also have heard that a mint/complete Yuna FX is somewhat rare and expensive. I got my copy cheap ($20 or so) but it was missing the manual so I can't say for sure on that one.

Oh, and don't pay anything the goons on eBay want for the big three. Whatever they are charging is undoubtedly a rip-off. I've seen Zeroigar up regularly with a $350 BIN. Ludicrous.

It's actually what you say because I got a cheap copy of both DK4 and Yuna (both complete) for around 20/30$ but I had a feeling it was very cheap as I usually see them go for much more on ebay..
I do know they are dirt cheap over in Japan, but I have no way of getting them at the moment so I have to stick to ebay :( was hoping to get some price indications of the more rare games so I could finish my collection without paying too much for them.. so any list (what are your top 5 or 10 rare games for pc-fx and what did you pay for it) from anybody here is more then welcome ;)

I agree with Nat, however Zeroigar is getting expensive even in Japan.  I know of one store that now wants it for 30,000yen!  This same store usually has very decent prices...  On average though Zenki is still the #1 in value.  Super Real Mahjong is only about $40 usually.  The Can Can Bunny & Pia Carrot dual pack is up there at about $70 though.  Yuna is dirt cheap here, a mint copy of the game can be had for about $5, in fact the demo disc usually sells for more...

I've spent a lot of time in Japan and have been shopping FXs for people for years.  Here's my take:

1. Zenki $200-$300
2. Zeroigar $150-$200
3. Chip Chan Kick! $120-$200
4. Nirgends $60-$90
and then...

Dragon Knight IV- I hope that no one here has spent a lot of money on it. It is a very cool game but over the last few years I have not seen it -in stores in Japan- used in mint condition for more than $50. I do remember it being hard to find at one point and getting quite a high price on ebay but $120 is extreme.  On Yahoo auctions in Japan, there were a couple of sellers pushing it for $80+ but there were no takers afaik.   In fact, it was the same two sellers who kept reposting it as they had no takers. That being said, I would still pay $50 for it if I needed it but anything much over that is unnecessary.
The Anime Freak 4-6 titles are a little tough to come by at all anymore but, again, never more than $40 a piece- and usually less.  The Tengai Makyou Kabuki (name escapes me at the moment) game can also hit $40.
As for Super Real Mahjong FX- again, I don't recall it being difficult to find or expensive.  It's been a long time since I looked for it though but I visit Japan again this summer, I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for updated prices.
All in all though, FX prices are reasonable except for the big three and even then it's because those games jsut stay in people's collections.  In my almost four years in Tokyo, I probably saw each of the big three two or three times each on a shelf.

Nirgends was that high? Really?

Nirgends was the only FX game I ever bought off eBay but I don't remember it being that much. I'll have to check my eBay account and see if they still have record of that auction...

EDIT: Yup, they still have the auction listed. I paid $19.99 for Nirgends. Guess I got a good deal, all things considered!  :D

Oh there's also " ん~にゅ~ " , this is one I've never seen, but I think it might be an FX-GA only game?
Only FX game this dude doesn't own.  http://www22.big.or.jp/~pc-fx/pc-fx/review.html
Also Madarake (rare goods store in Japan) lists their buying price as "To be decided", meaning it should be
worth a lot.  http://www.mandarake.co.jp/information/buy/nkn/galaxy/game/pcfx.html

Anyone have any real information on this one?
