Victory vs. Big
« on: January 24, 2008, 12:49:54 PM »
it seems that jaleco robbered from the PCE library. the resemblance between Victory Run (Hudson PCE 1987) and Big Run (Jaleco Arcade 1990) is almost undeniable.

1th The name: Victory Run vs. Big Run

2nd The genre: Rally Racer

3rd The cars (OK. more or less, since they're both rally cars ):

vs.

how do you think about?

Who are the developments teams/individual programmers for each?

Maybe they were made by the same people.

Honestly Tatsujin, you've shown us two screen shots that don't look really anything alike, and a bunch of proof that is inconclusive.

1. The name. I don't think "Run" is copyrighted.

2. The genre. OMG ANOTHER BEHIND THE CAR RACING GAME! THEY MUST BE STOPPED! You can apply this rebuttal to almost any other genre, platformers, FPS, etc....

3. The car. It's a blue and white car. The Dodge Viper is usually a blue and white car. Did Dodge rip off Hudson? I don't really think so.

At the end of the day, you add up what you've presented and you come up with jack shit. But even if you had something, who cares? It's just a video game, and the supposed "thief" made the game after the maximum profit peak for Victory Run had been reached.

There is serious conspiracy, and there is people who look for everything in nothing.

Actually, it isn't just Tatsujin.  Matt at Wolfgames also noted the similarity between the two when he had Big Run listed.  I forget his exact comment, though, and I don't think he currently has the game in stock.

Similar yes, but the exact same game just modified a bit? I doubt it. Even if it was, it's just a clone game. If we didn't have clone games we would have run out of video games even before the crash. Almost EVERY game is a upgraded form of another game, just look at it.

So pass this message from me onto Matt: Stop making something out of nothing.

easy kitsune  this comparison is just for fun based on my feelings about those two titles, and not an evidence accumulation for a judicial proceeding.

of course those two games quite differs, when it comes to gameplay, leveldesign etc. and in motion. so in fact, of course it's not a robbery of the entire game, but more an inspiration, which jaleco used to produce Big Run, i guess.

I love when Kitsunexus gets all worked up about something. It usually results in lots of caps and a bold typeface.

by the way, big run for the SFC is most probably the most worse racer ever released on any consoles  it even doesn't take any advantages of the mode-7. and if you've seen about the first 15sec of the 1st level, you've seen the entire game! the arcade pendant was a very funny and good looking racer tought.

Sounds a lot like Victory Run.

Maybe there is more to this plagiarizing theory than we thought.

only with the difference, that victory run is an awesome game, especially regarded to its age. i like it lot. and the up'n'down drives where nothing less than amazing at that time. if i think about, it doesn't come any other home racers to my mind, which technically could compete with victory run back then.

Outrun? Outrun was 982x better than Victory Run.
