No PC-Engine/Turbo CD mention on Modern Marvels: 90's Tech Show
« on: February 11, 2008, 02:18:47 PM »
So I saw the show last night on the History Channel and I was really upset that they tagged the Playstation as the first CD-Based home video game console. :^o [-X

We all know PC-Engine/Turbo Grafx was the first. (Even Super Grafx, Saturn.  and 3DO came before the Playstation)  More and more I see no mentions of my beloved system anywhere.  Even when they do the "Top XX games of all time", I rarely see my favorite PCE/Turbo games on there.

/end rant. [-(

Even if they were so ignorant as to dismiss the 16-bit generation of CD-ROM's, the Saturn came out before the PSX over here.

Hell, technically we can even call it the "8-Bit Generation of CD-ROM'S"  :)

What a bunch of ignorant tools.  I guess the TG-CD, Sega CD, Amiga CD32, 3DO, CD-I, Bandai Playdia, and Saturn don't count.

The video game series covers the freaking Virtual Boy and it doesn't bother mention 50+% of the rest of Japanese gaming.  It's like Nintendo and Sega are the only two Japanese console makers ever.  The series skipped so much Arcade and Home software it's appauling.  If it was only a one hour program this would be understandable, but it's a whole series!  Sometimes History and Discovery really, really frell modern history up.

I wish they would do a series covering video games from say 1980 to 1994.  Maybe 10, 1 hour programs.  1980-1986 could be 3 episodes with each other 1 hour devoted to a single year.

Yeah, but isn't it a consolized computer? Doesn't it run games that were previously released for the FM Towns computer?

Good point.  I believe that the Duo and the Marty were both released in '91, so by how long did the Marty beat the Duo to market as the first console with a built-in drive?

Yes and yes, but it's meant to be connected to a television and can boot directly from a cd.  Sounds like a console to me.

1991, OK that's fine, but didn't the PCE CD-ROM hit stores in like 1988? That beat the FM Marty McFly or whatever the f*ck it's called by a solid 3.

The CD-i was also released sometime in '91.  It'd be interesting to know the exact date for the release of the Marty, CD-i, and PCE Duo to see who beat who and by how much.

If I'm not mistaken, the NeoGeo CD can be added to the list of overlooked, earlier consoles.
