They just ported the first game to the Turbo last, that's all. Why? I have no idea. Maybe at the time they wanted to start porting the games they decided Valis II was better than Valis I and went with that instead. Then, when the series proved popular, they went back and ported the first game. I really don't know. Didn't the Valis series start on the MSX or something?

(And in case you're still in the dark-- yes, that last game is Valis I not Valis V.)

Its strange for me because I prefer to play and buy them in order.  I have Valis I and it'll be strange playing II knowing it came years earlier

I believe that at the time of the PCE version's release, Valis II was the newest game in the series. Kinda like how the Genesis got Thunder Force II instead of TF1. After that, I think that III and IV were console exclusives.

And don't forget about the Valis Visual Collection, a necessary waste of money for Valis fans everywhere.

I think you're right.  Interestingly enough, the PCE version of II is a lot different from the original II, from what I understand.

Yeah, I try to do this myself when possible, and I've been playing through the whole series lately.  If you want to play it in the proper storytelling order, part I (either the original MSX version or the PCE remake) definitely comes first.

I've finished through I-III, and I'm in the middle of part IV now -- I'll write up a short post-thoughts of the series when finished.

Valis I were both released in 1986 for the PC-8801 and MSX. The PC-8801 was most likely the original, and overall better than the MSX port.

I have a flyer for Valis II for PC-88/98 or MSX or something and it is very different than the PCE version. There is a Valis game for famicom that I believe is also different from the original.

Another example, is Dragon Knight & Graffiti, which is the first game, but came out on the Turbo after 2 & 3 had come out.

Yeah, I knew that already.. really annoying...
The first VALIS version (VALIS 1) that I played was GENESIS version. And reading about seems to be the pcengine version the worst.
To me is the NES version. :-&

in PC-Engine, of all 4, whats the best valis? I've heard about Valis III to be.

Valis I on the PC-Engine is overall better than the Genesis version in my opinion. If I remember right, the difficulty is higher on the PCE. Some(majority) also prefer the music in the Genesis version over the CD version, who've played both.

I thought the Genesis port of Valis I blew. The Turbo version is 100x better.

Man, they really failed with that game. 100 times better than "blows", and yet it still sucks.
