What kind of differences do you mean? R-Type I has the first 4 levels and R-Type II holds the last 4 ones(or are there only 3?). To get all levels in one game, you'll have to purchase the SCD "R-Type Complete".

As far as I know the reason why the game was splitted up, was that the memory of the Hu-card wasn't sufficient for holding all levels. As R-Type was released quite early in PCE's history, they had this technical limitation.

Wow that's some shocking trivia there..I had no idea. Do you know where I can find pictures of R-Type II levels? I think I'll have to get R-Type complete on SCD then, however, the only problem is the number of available credits to complete the game. IIRC R-Type I allowed 9 credits using a cheat and I could barely beat that game so if I only have 9 credits total for R-Type Complete then I definitely won't be able to beat it. :?

What about the US version, it contains all the levels. By doing so, did they cut down on anything else in the original game or was it just late enough that they now could do that with the hucards?

Wait a minute...so the US version contains all the levels? That's what I thought because when I wrote about beating the game with 9 credits I remember there were a lot more than 4 levels. As a matter of fact I had to jog my memory and count all the bosses which came out to be 7. So to conclude the US version has all the levels while the Japanese version had to be split between two HuCards. Ok I get it now. :)

Yep, although I sure would love to know how they could do this with the US version and not the Japanese one. Even the US version is a pretty early hucard so I wouldn't think any serious improvments were made in the time difference.
