I was born in December 1975 and I'm from Queens, New York- have lived here all my life.  Received my first TurboGrafx in Winter 89 and fell in love with the system- had a decent collection back then- CD player as well.  As I've shamelessly said a few times on this board- I ludicrously traded my system and games for a gigantic box of porno- kids, eh.  I never "upgraded" to a newer system- but I bought another turbografx- don't know around when.  About a year and a half ago I went back to my mom's and dug out the system- missing it heavily.  I had about five games.  Now I have 180 games, CD player again, ACD card and diving board controller.  I am also a huge movie buff (big Lynch fan), a musician with quite a few ongoing projects, in a relationship (live with my girlfriend), and work in a lawfirm in Manhattan.  I am currently obssessing over my new iMac, which I bought for the purpose of eventually making my own films (it'll take me a long time to figure all of this shit out).  I read often- though not lately- I love true crime books, Philip K. Dick, and I used to be a big Steven King fan (who wasn't?).  Living in NY I eat anything- Mexican, Italian, Thai, Indian, whatever.  I drink- though I'm known to get a little hairy when out at bars; I smoke cigarettes- though starting only when I get home from work.  I indulge in that other smoke as well.  I listen mostly to King Crimson, Erykah Badu, Medeski Martin & Wood and Bob Dylan.  Blah blah blah.

I joined this fine forum not long ago- and everyone here has been "swell".  I feel a kinship with some of these fine folk- even the ones I've had disagreements with are unforgettable characters.

Welcome to your other home!
Hey, I work in Manhattan as well (near Columbus Circle). :)

I was born in Denver, was raised in Denver and currently rule all of Denver.  As a kid I liked to BMX to far off lands and arrive back at home very late.  We lived on an extremely busy street where there was constant 45 mph traffic.  There were no speedbumps on the road to protect me from speeding cars.  My parents didn't build a fence in the front yard or keep me on a leash.  I got my first BMX when I turned 8.  I was allowed to go all lengths' distance from the house on my own, as far as I could on my bike just as long as I made it back home soon after dark.  I had no structural or social activities outside of school like soccer.  I did not make appointments (or "playdates" as they're called these days) to play with friends, we just showed up randomly at each other's houses without any notice whatsoever.  I turned out OK, I guess.  I'm glad I didn't grow up being raised by one of those overprotective/overstructured soccer bitch-moms.

"playdates"

I'm 27..   Grew up in New Hampshire playing Coleco, Nintendo, and then Genesis but always wanted a TG16.  I found one in a garbage can a few weeks before I moved out of NYC to the sticks in North Carolina - which is perfect because there isn't much to do here.  SO now I'm feverishly working on a TG collection. I'm also into movies, music (records), art, smoking (not cigarettes), food (mostly vegetarian), thrift stores..  guy stuff.   I've been here (in NC) since August,  don't really know anybody yet (still)..  spend too much time online hunting down records and games.  I should be painting instead.

Welcome.

My story is similar to yours-- got a Turbo as a Christmas gift back in '90 or '91 and never looked back.

I live currently in the outlying areas of the metropolis known as Seattle, WA.

I have a cousin who lives in the Seattle area.  Was thinking about moving there myself if I can find a job there.
Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.

We owned the following turbo games as kids:

Keith Courage
Bonk Adventure
Bonk Revenge
Splatterhouse
R-Type
Aero Blasters
Battle Royole
Dungeon Explorer
Ninja Spirit
Super Star Soldier
Sinistron
Space Harrier
Super Volleyball
Andrea Panza Kickboxing
Legendary Axe
China Warrior

That's a lot of games, we didn't bought them all.  Most were a classmate that I borrowed and never returned because they were missing.  I think it was stolen by a kid who lived up the street that also owned a TG16.  He was kind of a 'friend' that takes from you.  We confronted him about it but he denied it.  If I ever run into him again, I will asked him about it.  During the summer into 8th grade, we couldn't get any video or sound via the RF cable, only static.  Stupid us, my brothers and I started smashing it on the sidewalk in the back yard and stomped the hell out of it.  We're pissed that it didn't work.  Thinking back, it would have been an easy fix.  Anyway that was the end of the turbo experience as kids.  Don't know what ever happened to the games.  In 11th grade, I picked up the playstation only because the shoot-em up called Philosama.  I was disappointed in that game and then started to think about all the better shoot-em up I played on the TG16.  Started looking into pawn shop for a turbo system but didn't found any.  I then discover the internet and in 1999 got my first descent paying job and ordered a turbo duo from retrogaming.  Since then, I have brought and sold turbos 3 times.  Just now started to collect it again and this time I'm taking it with me to my grave.

Seattle is a big place and it's pretty nice here. Plenty of jobs. Seattle is really spread out, like LA, with lots of little suburbs that flow into each other with no discernable boundaries (a la Anaheim, Studio City, etc) to create what everyone generally knows as "Seattle."

You have to be willing to put up with a few things though:

[ul][li]The worst traffic in America along the I-5/I-405 corridor.[/li][li]Lots of rich, snooty bitch-made individuals due to the fact Nintendo of America and Microsoft are located here.[/li][li]Extremely drab weather during the fall and winter. Don't move here if you get seasonal depression. It basically rains and/or is cloudy for 6 straight months. Spring and summer are really nice, though. Summer gets hot.[/li][/ul]

I can vouch for this, everytime someone has called us up from Seattle they have been total a$$holes. They talk just like the smug people in that one epsisode of South Park.

I am entirely sure nat's not the same as them.

Who-- me, or Nintendo?

If that's the case, I haven't heard anything about it. But as of right now, I can safely assure everyone they are still here. My mom has a friend who works here at their HQ as a marketing specialist. He offered to take me on a tour of HQ but I haven't had a chance to take him up on it yet.

Ha! I know that section well.

I'm at west 56th between 9th & 10th. I love this one subway conductor (engineer?) that I catch nearly every morning (A train). He always says things like, "Have a pleasant morning" and "Have an unforgettable weekend" in a soothing, comforting manner. I know I can't be the only one who loves this guy. I have a goofy theory that he is a voice actor / announcer practicing his art during his day job.

I was born in the Ukraine but grew up speaking Russian till the age of 4, my parents fled communism and eventually took a flight to canada at the age of 4, for a year and a half. After that we moved to south cali and we've lived out here ever since.
Ukranians kicks ass! :)

My dad came over as a young boy (settling in the Rochester, NY area), I was born here in the States. He had lived ~ 60 miles from Kiev.

I remember an R train conductor who did the same stuff and I'd laugh all the time- wonder if its the same guy?

maybe we can meet up for lunch during the spring or something esteban

Since most engineers are zombies, I'd say there is a 30% chance it is the same guy!

I think it would kool to have lunch / coffee / soy milk one of these days.
