they don't talk about TMs (or HMs) in the TV show. They basically teach your pokemon moves; sometimes ones that they could never have learned otherwise. One of those types (TM or HM) is one-use-only, but I can't remember which.

Chansey (Egg Pokémon, evolved from Happiny, Normal type):


MewTwo (Genetic Pokémon, no evolution, Psychic type):


A TM (Technical Machine) can teach a Pokémon a move only once. HM (Hidden Machine) also teaches a move but it can be used multiple times on multiple Pokémon. HMs are required for further progress in the game, TMs are always optional.
