I was particularly lusting for Valis II because it had some screenshots (the one where Yuko is crouching in front of a bleached-white rib cage and magenta-purple mountains are in the distance) that intrigued me.

Thats the screenshot I always remember. :P It was pretty miseading as to what the game was really like, but I really liked the shaded hearts and status bar icons and envisioned it as a Faxanadu-style game.

I totally agree about the colors....
When I've tried to explain that to others, they've always looked at me like I was insane or something.

Glad to see someone else gets it.

I loved Black_Tiger's post! Glowy graphics are awesome!

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Speaking of Black Tiger, is there a port of the arcade game to the PC Engine in japan? Just curious. I loved that game in the arcade.

There actually basically is. Although Black Tiger never saw a console release (Capcom was working on a Famicom port at one point), Son Son II on PC Engine is a Son Son themed Black Tiger game.

Holy shit really? Son Son II's one of my favorites and I never realized that- then again I've only played Black Tiger a small smattering of times in the arcade- but cool as hell to know assuming it's true

Awesome! I'll have to track it down. How expensive is this Son Son game usually?

Not very, from what I've seen. It usually goes anywhere from $7 to $15.

Totally. I thought Valis II was going to be such an epic, wonderful experience. Too bad it wasn't. :(

I enjoyed it for what it was, though.

I was hoping for that too esteban. Mind you I haven't had the chance to finish it. It's OK fun, but all the other Valis games look to be a step up from II.
