Duo Problem.

Hi Every one,
I have a question about my Duo and was hoping some one could let me know if there is away to fix it.
The problem is that I replaced the laser about 3 months ago and it work great (except there is a screaching noise not sure if that is comon or not) and I didn't use it again for a the past two months and turn it on the other day with Lords in it and it played up until it went to get into the game and started clicking. So I tried another game CDR of Dracula X and it wouldn't even play. So I tried another game Gates and it booted but when I went to go into a game it stoped and it that clicking thing again. I open it again tonight and checked every thing and it all looks ok.

Any Idea's?

screaching noise? no that's not normal. Do you mean a high pitched whine while the laser is active? That means the laser is out of calibration and is struggling to read the disc. You can adjust the potentiometer on the side until it reads media without the whine.

As for the clicking.... Sound like a gear problem of some sort.

I will try and see if I can get it to realine. Do you have to do that when they are new?

Dude, CDR's might not be the best thing for your hardware. I'm not a technical guru, so I'll let those folks explain why (something about the data tracks on a CDR extending beyond the limits of the laser's track?)...

At least try testing with games that aren't CD-Rs.

I did my Lodrs and Gates are originals the only one thats not is Dracula x. If this fix doesn't work I might just box it up and put it back in the closet and bring out the good old Turbo with cd (just like the looks of the Duo (more modern)).

Or you could replace your laser if its going out on the Duo,and switch over to buying games instead of downloading them. Cd-rs are unhealthy for any of your old lasers.

The laser is only 3 months old with a total of maybe 2 hours on it and the only game I have tried playing on it that is backed up is the Dracula x (first time I tried it or any CDR with it) and that is only until I find a copy but I might just play it on the Comp. from know on.

Fiddling with the pot will most likely return your Duo to working order, considering that it wasn't working 100% before running any CDRs.  If not, then the new laser you installed might be defective, which wouldn't be the first time that someone ended up with a lemon.  Good luck, it'd be a shame to hide such a sexy machine in the closet.

A properly ripped disc shouldn't require an overburn, as the originals aren't that big; I believe the problem with CDRs is their lower reflectivity.

Just finished with re adjusting the laser and everything is running and as for the CD-R's not going to be trying those again. So I am now going to be looking for an original copy of Dracula X.
