Yeah, those little one-room air conditioners are one of the weirder things about Japan.

They have their advantages over central air (you only need to cool the rooms you're using; if one breaks you can just move to another room for a while) - and their disadvantages (no central control point; if you actually use them efficiently, you have to put up with a warm room for a bit when you first enter.)

I wonder how much those things cost. I'd like to pick up a couple.

Anywhere from ~$500 to a grand+ or so IIRC, depending on how much power the sucker has.

They're fine for a bachelor pad/decent sized office, but not much use for places with multiple rooms with corridors and whatnot.

When I was in Japan back in 2001, My host family used those exclusively. Their house was pretty big, and it was summer, but they kept the place pretty comfortable.

Yeah, I don't want some ugly-ass POS hanging out my f---ing window. I want a nice compact wall-mount unit that looks pretty like the one in the picture.

Except the wall mount is only half of the AC unit.  My apartment is equipped with two of these.  There is a hole in the wall with a tube which connects to the outdoor unit.  Mine work quite well and they do look much nicer then the good old American window unit.  These things also function as heaters and are what I use to keep from dieing during the winter months.  This country has every gadet you could imagine except for something useful like central heating.  ](*,)

Oh, there's more to it than just what you see? Screw that noise, then. I'm not sawing holes in my wall.

Oh mighty ENIAC. Please solve the riddle of the HuCARD vs. Cartridge debate once and for all. Please bring stability back to the time and space continuum.

Is a HuCARD a cartridge or not?

ENIAC simply ignores any statements not directly addressed to ENIAC. ENIAC is this powerful. Nothing can derail ENIAC's focus.

The HUCARD is actually neither. It is actually the FLAT format memory storage unit. ENIAC secretly embedded diagrams and schematics it will need in the future in one of each and every HUCARD,with the last piece needed to put it all together being on what would have been Strider for Supergrafx. Due to Strider never being finished,ENIAC abandoned this format all together and went to Zipdisk, one of ENIACS greatest creations by far.

Yah man, I do believe your gonna have to put wholes in your wall. But damn, those Japanese Air Conditioners are quite!  I got myself a made-in-china cheepo... the thing sounds bad. It is portable witch is cool though...

What we really should be talking about is those kick ass Japanese Toilet Seats, you know the ones that wash your ass and stuff.
