Wiiware is out!
« on: May 12, 2008, 05:35:20 AM »
Wiiware has launched. The availiable games:

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
LostWinds
Defend your Castle
Pop
V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack
TV Show King

Sadly, Dr. Mario is not one of them. That was the one I was looking forward to the most.
My Final Fanboy brother will probably want to download FFCC:MLaaK (what a mouthful), but he'll have to buy his own wii points. :p

What IS that FF game? Some kind of Wii-ware exclusive? Can't be very good in that case.... I wouldn't think, anyway.

Wake me up when Alien Crush and Star Soldier R show up.

WiiWare are downloadable games, kind of like the Virtual Console, except they're wii originals.

also, since you're european, Nintendo hates you and hasn't launched wiiware there yet.

I'm anxious to see how Plättchen actually plays (you can use the bongos  ).

It sounds overpriced at 1500 points plus jeebus knows how many more points for the extra content.

Wake me up when Alien Crush and Star Soldier R show up.

Will you sleep through Bomberman?

I downloaded Lost Winds awhile ago and it's a pretty cool game. Beautiful graphics and sound and a unique concept with 2D platforming gameplay. Was debating to get that or the Crystal Chronicles game, but got Lost Winds instead since I only had 400 Wii Points and didn't want to spend 20 bucks to have enough points for FFCC. I still don't quite understand what that game is about, some kind of sim game.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Oh f*ck yeah, Star Soldier R will be released on Wii Ware in the US on May 19!!! Not only is that way sooner than I expected, but I was skeptical as to whether it would ever even see a US release at all.

Just so people know in case they don't, Star Soldier R is in tormanment mode only.  Which is cool in a way, but I was kinda bummed when I heard this.  I was thinking "Holy crap on a cracker!  Sweet!  A new Star Soldier game!"  Nope just torunament mode.

By "tournament mode" do you mean caravan mode? 2 and 5 minute options?

Yeah that's kind of a bummer actually, but not horrible. Is that only the US version or is that all the game is?

Sadly that's all the game is.  2 or 5 min then go online and compare scores to others.  Man Star Soldier is my favorite shooting series.  I was kinda disappointed to hear it was tournament mode only.  I'll still be getting it, but it's still kind of a let down.

I agree. And this is after I've been fiending over this game since it's announcement like a year ago.

Still-- it will be my first Wiiware download. I can't wait to play it.

I was aware of Star Soldier R was caravan only, and while it's a little dissappointing, I'm still excited for it and it makes a perfect fit for a service like Wii Ware. I heard it also has a mode to see how many times you can tap the fire button in a second, a nod to Takahashi Meijin "16 Shot".

the whole thing is surprising to me.  i interviewed 16 shot at hudson two years ago and he talked about how cool it would be to bring a game like star soldier to the wii but said he was told by programmers that it wouldn't work as he hoped. i thought that was the end of it until i found out it was on hudson's caravan this year.  a pleasant surprise.

No way -- you have to reveal more about this interview. :)
