Would that necessitate a name change from Frozen Utopia to Games Express:lol:

Maybe...but I still think it would be darn cool if Frozen Utopia used those kinds of cases.  I think they would make the games look like nice collectables.

There is a precedent (sort of), as Idol Hanafuda Fan Club came in a similarly sized case.

DVD case might be nice, but I'd say stick with the closest to the original Duo design as possible. It's nice to recreate the feel of having a new game for an old system without it looking homebrewish.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Sorry, no pics here, but PCECP has scans of the case front and rear; I believe it's similar to a VHS clam shell case.

Any reason why the Duo CD cases are better than the cases earlier CD games came in?  Does NEC really have a standard?  Depending on when it was released, there are several styles of PC-FX box and since I am not an expert on the Duo and you specifically mentioned it, I assume this is a very specific style?  And when you want a re-creation of the origional packaging, does this include having a white tray?  Even the FX games have white trays (when they have trays), as far as I can tell, this might be NECs only packaging standard although I am sure there is some game which proves exception to the rule.

Nope, they're standard single or double sized jewel cases (or slims if you include the unofficial boob discs).

Since M.S. will be a North American release, then I'd assume that it'll use a black tray.  This side o' the pond had almost all black trays, with the exception of Valis II, Final Zone II, Implode, and Meteor Blaster DX.

I specifically mentioned Duo because since MS is a SCD game, I think it would be most appropriate to specifically stick with the SCD/Duo case style.

How are they different than the regular CD game cases?

Mostly in terms of cover and manual design than actual jewel case design (Super CD logo, blue instead or red instructions, different layout, etc..). Some of the super old CD games had a black back like the Turbo Chip games, but for the most part they are the same.
