This is a neat idea and the Chase H.Q. back looks sweet. If I may leave a suggestion though, I think the side label should follow one of the original Turbo Grafx 16 HuCard case styles; the classic orange and black label or the "genre color code" label.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Let me first say that the inserts look very nicely done- nice job- commendable.  I too however, like Keranu, have a small suggestion- the description comes off too much like a review to someone who doesn't have the game- even going so far as to say "if you like... try this one out" - which feels kind of odd being that I'm assuming you're making these as if they existed all along and were part of the entire package? My point being that if it was indeed real- an original insert- someone reading the back of the case would have obviously purchased it already and so "try this out" reads rather awkward.  Of course the game owner's friend could be browsing through his game titles and come across Chase H.Q. and read the review on the back- but I'm assuming that these were made more with the actual owner/collector in mind rather than the owner/collector's friends.  The text should read less like a review and more like a plot summary to a story in which "you" (the reader) is the star.  Just my suggestion- but visually good work- though I definitely agree with Keranu's suggestion as well.

Nicely done.  Now all we need is someone to start making the PCE HuCard jewel case trays.

The text should read less like a review and more like a plot summary to a story in which "you" (the reader) is the star.

Didn't that text come from the back of the box?

Did it really?  LOL maybe it did- if so it doesn't read like the back of most tg boxes I've seen...

Just a guess, but it does sound vaguely familiar.

Just read it again- it def. didn't come from the box- e.g.- "It is a relatively short game, with everything you'd expect out of old-school racers"  It wouldn't refer to itself as "short" or especially as "old-school" at its time of release

Hey, all of us are going to throw in our $0.02! :)

I agree with Keranu. I'd prefer old-skool aesthetics....

BUT, since Windancer's design is very nice as well, I suggest that an OLD-skool and a NEW-skool version of the tray inserts be available.

That way, folks can choose what they like best.

Everyone is happy :)

Also, I agree with Sinistron... the text should be sourced from the original packaging...

Another option would be to use the "Hucard" side panel from a later PCE game.

Of course, printed text for all U.S. releases, manuals and advertisements never referred to hucards!  They were always called Turbochips.  The only exception is on the back of the card itself, probably because it was patented Hudson technology.
I say avoid "Hucard' altogether.  Doing so will allow you to keep your cool font and create a new Turbochip panel.

Otherwise, I think it's best to cannibalize existing material whenever possible.  Use the text from the back of the box or the manual's intro and you're likely to satisfy the most people because, no matter how cheesy, the description came from TTI has already been accepted as canon.

Haha i was actually suggesting the same thing with the 2 versions of the inserts the other night in the shoutbox. Btw the descriptions do tend to read more like reviews, but i suspect that's because on some of those inserts the original text on the backs of the boxes could not be located. Hence why neutopia II has the original text while chase h.q. doesn't. Either way excellent job pcef and wind, keep up the good work!

Oh these are not my designs they are PCEginefan's designs. Im a graphic retard LOL. I love what he's done and im certainly using them for my games. he's put in hours of work on them and I for one would just love having an insert. When we first started  this project we were thinking along generic lines, but I think he's gone above and beyond that. The only thing ive done to help is collect some graphics from the net for him. This is all PCEnginefan boys. I would liek to give credit where credit is due. If anyone wants to make alternate inserts we will post them at pcenginefan for ya. and give you the credit.

These inserts look awesome. I agree that maybe the game description copy should read less like a game review. However, I like that you've gone another route with the side panel design. These games never had jewel cases so the design scheme is wide open. Actually, the design you chose is actually more in line with the US Duo side panel designs, i.e. Riot Zone and Bonk 3.

Anyway, they look fantastic. Great work.  8)

I prefer using real HuCard cases:
