Neutopia

I've always been a huge Zelda fan, but usually not a big fan of Zelda-clones because most of them are just not as good as Zelda.

That being said, I am at the 4th Labyrinth in Neutopia and I really like the game a lot. The game is very polished and a blast to play. My only gripe is the difficulty which I hope gets notched up a bit as I go along since the game has just been too easy so far.

Can't wait to finish and play Neutopia 2.

I am a big fan of zelda as well, always have an adventure on the go on my gameboy advance.
Neutopia is one of those games i keep meaning to come back to  looked good on the short time i played it, so thanks for your thoughts i think its time

I also travel with my GBA and Zelda. I only have A Link to the Past right now.

Anyway, I've beaten both Neutopias and, while I like them, they certainly aren't the best Zelda clones. They are entertaining on their own but everything feels lightweight. The way your character knocks back when hit and the various sound effects all lend an atmosphere that nothing in the game actually weighs much. Maybe that's just me, though.

No, it's not just you. Rastan Saga II also suffers from this flaw: every enemy is as stalwart as a over-inflated balloon. This prevents any visceral satisfaction whilst kicking ("popping") butt in the game.

In Neutopia, the protagonist is doomed with this fateful quality.

I still dig Neutopima, though.

Buster Bros was the first game I thought of when making that post. Strangely enough, I don't find Buster Bros to have that same "popping" feel as other games, the bubbles feel to meaty for a loud, quick pop.

A meaty pop, eh? I agree, the Buster Brothers sound effects do the gameplay justice, but now I have images of meat balloons floating in my head, and it ain't pretty.

Neutopia is my favorite Zelda clone. What I loved about it from the first time I played it is how faithful it is to the 'original' while adding the perfect amount of next-gen aesthetics.
