Doesn't bleaching white plastics make the yellow come back like 10x worse?

Funny, I just posted a link about yellowing plastics in another thread. Yellowing plastics information - http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189

I'm curious how the plastic will hold up after bleaching. If the yellow is from 'dirt', it should be OK and stay white. However, if what causes the yellow is from something inside the plastic.......

yeah..unfortunately i've encountered that experience once. i brushed a pce back to white like new, but within few month the pce looked like the teeth from a 150 year old chain smoker. R.I.P.

The PC Engine I cleaned was way worse than it appears in the photos and the pad was really bad. But a year later both have remained as white as the day I rinsed the bleach off.

It might help than I don't smoke.

do not smoke in near of my babies as well ;) anyway there are other reasons for the yellowing of the plastic than smoke e.g. air, sun (ultraviolet), storage...

anyway, thanx for the share and since i didn't use bleach but soap at that time, i will follow your instructions for an other go and see what happens over a longer term :)

The other thing is that I have kept the PC Engine and all my valuables out of sunlight since, so who knows?

If you quit smoking altogether, you'd have more to spend on your babies :)

Doesn't he live in Japan?  That may not be possible in a place where 150% of the population smokes.

Or at the very least, if he is living in something other than a separate house the whole place may very well be tainted by smoke. Every smoker I've met has been immune to the "scent" of cigarette smoke they can't see.
