I never got too far in this game on SGX, mostly because I rarely had access to the console.  But I found this entire series tough!

OFF TOPIC:
On trials and tribulations endured on SGX:  I did play Aldynes (shooter) on the console quite a bit and I could never beat one of the later bosses.  Quite frustrating.

Also, I got stuck in Granzort (using emulator)... I was surprised that the platforming got tough and that I couldn't progress... I definitely want to revisit Granzort and complete it.

Ghouls'n Ghosts is too hard for a casual gamer like me, plus it's some years ago since I played it the last time. I locked my SGX in the closet, propably have to change this...

I also loved to play Aldynes and Granzört. Yes, I like Granzört.

This is one of those situations where it would be neat if someone took screenshots of the later stages, just to confirm that those later stages EXIST!

That's how I felt with Athena (NES).  I really tried to complete that game, inspired by some MANIAC who beat it (without cheats) -- he was kind enought to post his progress on the web.

word up!  We should spread the love... not to many folks discuss these games, even via emulation.

Athena is a neat SNK adventure game, the character of Athena has actually become a mainstay with the King of the Fighters series. Athena also came out in arcades.

Never beat Ghouls n' Ghost on Super Grafx, nor any other system. I remember I made it pretty far on MAME once... but of course I was using unlimited credits :D . It's a very hard game.

I thought Aldynes was just okay, but not really exciting. Granzort is pretty fun and probably the best SGX game. If Strider came out for SGX, then that would probably be the best SGX game.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Just because you guys were talking about this game I pulled my SGX out off the closet and plugged it in. I've tried 1941 and GnG. Hey man, GnG is REALLY hard. After dying several times while trying to climb the hill in the 1st level, I got a little bit frustrated. But I tried and tried and after 30 minutes I made it to level 2. Wooooah!
Then I tried to remember if I ever have seen the boss of the 2nd level. I think not. But it's a lovely nice game.

1941 disappointed me a bit. I thought it was a bit better, graphicwise. But still a solid game.

The instruction manual is indicating that the other 3 levels exist ;-)

1941 ain't too bad. It's not really exciting or anything, but it's solid like you said.

I remember getting far on the Genesis version.  But the SupgerGrafx version is just too tough.  I have trouble passing the second level, and sometimes when I barely do I have no continues left and one man.  I throw in the towel at that point.

I've beaten SG GnG through the first time, but after you beat the last boss, you get a special weapon instead of rescuing the princess. You then have to use this special weapon and beat the game a second time to rescue the princess.
