I've beaten SG GnG through the first time, but after you beat the last boss, you get a special weapon instead of rescuing the princess. You then have to use this special weapon and beat the game a second time to rescue the princess.

friggin' amazing! has anyone ever completed the second loop and documented it with screenshots?  Perhaps a Japanese PCE fanpage has this?

It's a pretty difficult game. My nephew took his SuperGrafx back so I can't check at the moment, but I remember there was a way you can go into some kind of special screen at the title menu to adjust the difficulty, credits, sound test, etc. I used this to change the credits to 9 and the difficulty to very easy IIRC. It's still a very difficult game though. Also when you play the second loop, you cannot get any other weapons. If you do by accident you lose that special weapon and have to open more treasure chests to get it back in order to rescue the princess. To add to the difficulty the weapon has really weak range, however, I can't remember how powerful it is when you're powered up with the gold knight armor. I won't describe what the weapon is because I don't want to spoil it for those of you who plan on playing it. I will say that it's definitely possible to beat both first and second loops with 9 credits since I made it to the last level of the second loop but I just didn't have enough credits left to survive.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I'm gonna have to try to get further in this game.  I just want to see some of the later levels, goddammit.  Keranu, I cried last night trying to get through the second level without dying.  I got worse and worse.

I remember last time I played it, I was getting so pissed off on the part at the first level with those tornado things. I usually have no problem at all with those things until last time I played it. I was getting so pissed off. I was also getting mad at Bloody Wolf yesterday on the fourth level boss. I gave up because I couldn't beat him.

Yeah, GnG is one hardcore bastard.

now, bloody wolf is pretty easy, but i've had a lot of practice. i honestly can't remember how difficult it seemed when i first started playing it.  i do remember insisting that "bloody wolf" was a real thing ("like the 'green berets' of the army")... yes, i was a dork.

what's the fourth boss?  i had to look at the TurboPlay guide to remind myself...
http://home.comcast.net/~archive-one/TP-03-12.jpg

oh snap, he is tough... I remember that I had to constantly keep moving when fighting him.  also, i don't think that's the last time you see this boomerang dude!

the story actually is a kool part of this game... so keep on fighting!!!! it get's kooler after you beat 4.

Hehe, I was using your Turbo Play archives to get help in Bloody Wolf  . It came in a lot of handy because before when I would play the game, I would just kind of play until the second level boss where I would get killed. Thanks, Turbo Play!

I want to have a "testimonials" section of the website where people write in letters explaining how TurboPlay helped them.  Yours is the first!  I'm half-kidding, that's how tired I am right now :)

Haha, I'd love to see my testimony on there. It has helped me, not only with Blood Wolf, but Ninja Spirit as well. (mainly for the falling pit part before the last boss)

I had a quest in the last quarter of last year, to beat all the super grafx games i never beat since 1992 when i owned a SGX, and crushed GnG, and 1941.

I have beaten Battle Ace(f*cking hard), Granzort(even f*cking harder), and Aldynes(not too bad except the last boss, but there's a tutorial on the net on how to beat it.).

All games were ONLY possible for me, with Magic Engines save state feature, otherwise i would not have even attempted these games ever again as they are too impossible. I still have the save states for anyone wanting them i believe, and i saved the endings as well. GranZort's ending was lame, but the other two were decent.

I was gonna ask for the save states, but then I saw Keranu's post and I remembered that I, too, am HARCORE and must finish Granzort and Aldynes on my own.  I'm tempted to look at the aldynes boss guide (that's where i got stuck)... but I must be strong.

It sucks to hear that Granzort doesn't have a good ending.

Yes I beat SuperGrafx Ghouls 'n Ghosts back in 97 or 98 when I had the console.   It was pretty hard but not hard enough that I could not beat it.  I could never beat SNES Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, for me that was alot harder. The last level or two was a total ***** and Sardius the final boss was impossible for me.  way way way way harder than Loki / Lucifer at the end of Ghouls 'n Ghosts.

I could not beat other SuperGrafx games either: Battle Ace, Grandzord, or Aldynes.  Ghouls 'n Ghosts was easy in comparison!

the reviewer 'R.I.P.' from gamezero.com  found SGX GnG very difficult as well. in '96 he wrote:

This has got to be one of the most difficult games that I have ever played in my life. Even using a code which gave me additional continues and lives, I have never been able to advance beyond third level. I felt that graphics and sound were comparable to the arcade version, and play control was very accurate as well. I really enjoy this game and still go back to it from time to time, in hopes that I'll hit that magical groove and win this puppy!
