SGFX Ghouls and Ghosts: Anyone Beat it?

SGX GnG isn't that hard, its just a port of the japanese version of the arcade, where the continue spots are few and far inbetween.

Thats why the Genesis GnG seems so easy, but the MD GnG is probably the same as SGX GnG.

Once you get the gameplay down, its easy to fly straight through again and again. The bitch, is getting the Cross the 2nd time through, since you can only find it wearing gold armor.

Unless you get the Cross in the first section of the first level, kill yourself. Otherwise, it way faster to just reset, play to the end and try again on the second quest level one.

If you need to develop your skills, you should play the original japanese game on MAME, since you get unlimited continues. But just the same, if you miss the Cross right away, just reset cause its pretty much a waste of time.

The game is easier for me than Ghosts N Goblins. But with both, you either master the gameplay and breeze through or hit a wall.

Thats what good games are, difficulty surpassed by increased skill instead of a bunch of cheap hits(which GnG also has :D ).

Haha very good information you guys have here! Anyway I also couldn't beat Granzort. I could always make it to the last level boss but it was so damn hard to get there. I have only played these games on the console itself, not emulators or anything. Maybe when I have more time I'll try the emulators with a nice control pad. 8)

I've never played the super grafx version of this. I don't own the system and I downloaded the rom but it doesn't want to work. I have beaten the genesis one and didn't find it that hard. It's one of my favorite genesis games. However if the sgx one doesn't have unlimited continues then i'm sure i'd get my ass kicked. Now the nes Ghosts n' Goblins was a tough one. Is this more like that game?

I haven't played the SNES version so I don't know how hard it is. I just know that the SGX version on "normal" difficulty was pretty hard. I always had to play it on easy or very easy whichever one was the lowest can't remember to make it past the first full loop.

Ghosts N Goblins is just a totally different game, which is tough, but more balanced(skill pays off more).

The SGX GnG is just based on the original Japanese arcade version(as is the Megadrive 'port'), where the points you restart at after dying are few and far inbetween). It makes a big difference in this type of game.

There is a Lives and Continues trick that makes it easy to reach the final level of SGX GnG. Any version is just ridiculously hard/cheap to completely beat since you have to play through the game twice and use a particular weapon at the end to reach the real last boss.

No. I have beaten Super Ghouls n Ghosts on SNES both times through before. Had a terrible headache afterwards. So much stress packed into that series.

To me beating a Ghosts n'Goblins/Ghouls N'Ghosts/Makaimura game in general is just simply making it to the final stage.

Same here, when I said I beat the genesis version, I mean only one time through. I've been playing that nes one again and now I can get to level 4. Still havn't played the SGX one.

I've never beaten Ghouls 'n Ghosts, but I never played it much either (never saw an arcade cabinet, didn't have the Genny version way back when, and didn't get a SGX and the game until much later). The only thing I remember is usually getting very frustrated on the second stage and giving up.

I have beaten the SNES Super GnG though. Damn hard game, especially since Capcom took out the ability to shoot up. I actually owned the game for about ten years before finally beating it in 2001. Prior to beating it, I had gotten to the end a couple of times, but always got pissed at the "you have to go back and get this other weapon" bit and gave up. And yes, that weapon sucks. However, in Super GnG you can pick it up without wearing the gold armor (at least I seem to remember being in my underwear once when I got it). There's also several places you can get the weapon up until about halfway through the game, at which point you better have it or you're screwed. It's also annoying because you can accidentally pick up another weapon (just avoid any treasure chests after you've got the special weapon). The range on it sucks balls, although when you power up with the blue or gold armor it's decent. Once you actually reach Sardius he's not too bad.

Oh yeah, does the Super Grafx version have the Red Arremer/Guinivere abduction cinema like the arcade had?

That particular cinema defined the entire series. Ghosts N'Goblins (NES), & Super Ghouls N Ghosts (SNES) had it, but Genesis/Mega Drive doesn't.

I don't know what you mean by getting the cross, because the special weapon in SG GnG is not a cross.

The SGX version is missing all of the opening scenes. It only has the one scene when you start a new game, where the couple gets hit by a couple of lasers.

Then what is the special weapon in the SGX version?

Its a cross in Makaimura and whatever it is in Daimakaimura I've gotten it in the arcade, Genesis & SGX versions before, but don't remember what it was exactly.

All I know is that you have to have the Magic Armor on to get it.

I beat the Genesis version twice, but I don't remember what the special weapon is either.  It was like 10 years ago though.
