I obviously recognized his voice, but I've never heard his name before.  Too bad he's gone, though I'm sure a million cheesy imitators are lining up to fill his shoes.

That sucks. I liked his voice the most out of all of the ones that did that kind of work. There are a couple of other ones that are appealing, but he was the best.  :(
Warm milk, turkey, those can make you sleepy(well, the consumption of, you can't just hand around a turkey or a glass of warm milk, & expect to fall asleep).

Before the craptacular Iron Man movie, I haven't went to a movie theater in years. Now I have more reasons to not pay $12 to see a new movie. That guy made every crappy movie look epic.

So.... you went to movies just for the trailers, or did the voice over on the trailer actually affect your enjoyment of the movie when you eventually saw said movie?

Actually according to you you saw Iron Man 3 times in the theatres.
Supposedly the second time because a chick was going.  What about the third time?  Had a coupon for free bon-bons and sour patch kids?

Anyway.

LaFontaine was f*cking sweet as hell.  Sad day for film in general.

He wanted to see the trailers and listen to the sweet voice overs by Don LaFontaine.  It was his sole reason for going to the cinema, don't ya know?

Movie trailers really WILL never be the same again! He was like THE voice of movie trailers. This is a sad day. He's irreplaceable.

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.

Wow. That is unfortunate to hear for this actor. There was a certain fondness that I've had for his voice from various movies trailers, and he will certainly be missed by many. An interesting thing, too, is that there was a discussion in my Introduction to Computers class on the first day of school (August 25th), about him in part of the 1960's movie trailer announcer after viewing the one for How the West Was Won.

I wonder what he died from? At least he had a decently long life at the age of 68. I, too, am curious of who will be the next voiceover, but I have a feeling that it will be the man who speaks for the TNT channel (the voice for Cat in the Nickelodeon show CatDog, I believe, but I do not know of his name).

I wonder what he died from?

Complications from a blood clot in his lungs which led to a collapsed lung.  Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.  Go Joe!

Yes, this is very sad. The guy literally did something like 5000 trailers and was just a fluke he got involved in voice-overs at all. Apparently, bitd he was working as a writer and on one particular project the voice-over person didn't show up. So, LaFontaine took it upon himself to do the voice-over part. I guess it really didn't sink in how good he was until a few years later, but it's interesting to see how life can throw you a bone.

Whenever I hear his voice on the Star Trek II trailer I get teh chills.
