Now this is a new one from ebay
« on: September 06, 2008, 09:39:14 AM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, if not can a mod move it *glares at Keranu* lol

Anyway after being totally broke for the past 4 months I got a job as a web developer and I thought I'd celebrate by buying a few PCE games I went on ebay to a shop i've bought from a few times in the past and bought 2 games for a very good price imo.

Since I'm only 20 and a university student I havent had a full time job till now meaning no credit/debit cards because I have no credit. I pay with everything through postal orders (Uk version of money orders) So as I went to pay for these two games I checked over all the details and clicked continue I was then taken to paypal and told that the only option to pay was with Paypal, I don't have a paypal account nor can I make one atm. I've emailed the seller and he mailed me back right away with his address (which I still had from a past transaction) so I can post payment on monday. But really the description states he accepts PO's and the little payment accepted thingy at the bottom says 'other' which in the past I've always been able to click it and go down the postal orders.

I am not a happy bunny right now.

Oh and the 2 games were Bonk 2 and Populous.

And yes now I believe people when they say ebay is evil, it really is but till I get paypal I'm stuck with it, well if this is anything to go by maybe not even that.

Maybe you could get someone to pay for you? It's an idea.

Because of numerous medical bills I have due to my back and pancris problems which I will never be able to pay off, I do not have a bank account myself.  I have to buy pre-paid credit card and get knocked for 12-6% and then pay through paypal to buy stuff on ebay since most people do not want to hassle with money orders anymore (and I don't blame 'em).  Can you get pre-paid cards in the UK?  If they are visa or mastercard, I am sure they can be linked to a paypal account.

I always use paypal anyway, but this policy is shitty and obviously anti-competitive.  With Google going to bat to protect their investment in Google Checkout, there's a good chance that it'll be short lived.  They've plenty of money to take on ebay, and if they're smart, they'll cave before Google decides to start their own auction site (why not, they stick their fingers in everything else).

Yeah whenever I want nes games from the US I get my cousin to pay for them through paypal, but my main gripe is that ebay went against the seller and what payment methods he allows which in my view must be illegal somewhere.
