What PC-FX game are you currently playing?

I thought it would be goot to have a companion thread to the "What Turbo game are you currently playing?" one.

But to spice it up as bit lets add a bit more information than just the game title.  Please tell us how it is and if you wourl recommend it to others.

I'll go first.


I am currently playing Last Imperial Prince.  It's a 2D side scrolling action RPG (think Zelda II) I am liking it so far though I hope there will be a little more complexity to the battles as I go along.  I would say I reccomend it as its a lot more playable to non-japanese speakers than a lot of the other RPG games on the system.  I'll write more as I play more.

LIP is great if you can get past the, uhm, odd battle system. Actually I really like the battle system, save for one thing: you never know how many enemies are facing at one time. Later in the game you get into battles where there are, and this is no exaggeration, as many as 30 unseen enemies hiding offscreen. They just keep coming, one after another. I think I counted 32 enemies in a battle one time.

Beyond that, this game has some really beautiful locations and scenes and it is quite long. I like it a lot.... one of my favorite FX games.

I'm currently playing RRR, Blue Chicago Blues and Last Imperial Prince right now.

RRR I would recommend hands down to anyone who can find a copy.
Same with Last Imperial Prince.  They are both great action/RPGish games.

BCB while I like it, might not be for everyone, unless you like watching FMV/audio games without knowing the language...and loosing frequently because you didn't question people fast enough.

Finally got around to trying Team Innocent.  I like it a lot.  Great atmosphere.  Of course I instantly killed myself by opening that stupid airlock but after that I had a good time with it.  The backgrounds and cut scenes are great I just wish they would have made the character sprites a bit better and added more frames of animation.  Still I think I will have a good time with this game.

Yeah. Not this second, but it may just be my next console buy. I'm trying to decide between that and the SGX.

You definitely get more bang for your buck with a PC-FX. Since you already have a region-modded Duo and thus can play 99% of the NEC 16-bit library, the joy a SGX would bring into your life is minimal.

But then again, if you're afraid of Japanese RPGs, the same could be said of a PC-FX. While it has a few killer action games, those only make up a small portion of it's already limited game library.

Thanks to Sensei, I got a copy of Shanghai- The Great Wall: my holy grail for the PC-FX. I'd been searching for this for a number of years, ever since I got my FX. I have to say, the wait was well worth it. I played it today and couldn't put it down for 2 hours. For whatever reason the Shanghai games aren't very popular among the board members here, but I love them. That said, this one is by far the best I've ever played. It has a killer "Arcade" mode that is basically a storymode where you travel across the country visiting different locations. Just from looking at the map I was traveling, I'd guess there are 50-some odd levels. After you bust up a board, the background photo fades into full color from B&W. Which I should mention-- the digitized background photos are beautiful in both composition and image clarity. The arcade mode has four different modes within itself, at least one of which offers 2 player simultaneous play (versus), and another mode called "Bejing" that is a variation on the game where you can slide tiles around. Haven't quite figured out the nuances of that one yet, but the straight Shanghai arcade mode is killer. Also, the fantastic score deserves a mention, as there is seemingly a new music track for every single level.

On top of all that, you have a "Classic" mode which is just your plain-jane Shanghai where you can choose the design, tileset, and background graphic and just go to town.

This is going to be in my FX for a good while, there are hours of fun to be had here. If you are a Shanghai fan, this game is a must, and I'd go so far as to say for fans it's worth buying a PC-FX just for this game.

I'm so glad you like it.  Yeah, for some reason that one is really hard to find.  It would be nice to think that it is hard to find because people like it enough to not sell it, but it probably just got a small print run.  I am a big fan of Shanghai games too (also real mahjong) and I once went for a month playing nothing but Shanghai-Mini when I got it for my Neo Geo pocket years back.

I agree. 

I think tonight I am going to give Battle Heat another shot.  Everyone talks about how great it is, and I can see its a well made game, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

It took me many, many plays before I could even execute a single move. After I began to get the hang of it, the game all of a sudden got kinda playable. I even won a few matches. It's a very unique experience, if nothing else, but don't be discouraged if your first 10 or so gos with it don't bear any fruit. It's all in the timing. There is a move list in the PC-FX World section of this site, if you haven't already got that, get it-- it's vital. Once you have that, it's just a matter of getting the timing down.

Yuna is lots of fun, not very long, but as you go along you unlock minigames you can go back and play later. But yeah, I second that sentiment.
