Far east of eden problem. help!;(
« on: March 14, 2005, 09:12:15 AM »
I finally got my pro-card and can now play the the super cdrom2 games on my supergrafx.
Except maybe for "the far east of eden" game.

The intro of the game will load up but when i come to the startmenu and push run on the controller there's a Japanish text message coming up wich mentions "BIOS" somewhere in the middle of the japanish text.
I don't know what this is about as i can't read japanish.
Can't select anything and can't resume, like everything freezes.
It seems the only thing i can do is turn off the console.

What is this?
Maybe an error of a scratch on the CD?

Thanks

I don't know what the problem is, but the error screen you are seeing most likely has something to do with 1) using the inappropriate system card ( see gallery of error screens here) -- but this is unlikely since you said you have the correct system card.  In that case, it's likely that 2) you need to clear some of your back-up data to make room for a Far East of Eden save file.

On the CD-ROM system title screen, press the "select" button and you can delete some files or format everything.

Hope this helps.  Post a screenshot of the error screen if you can.

Yep, it worked.

I could enter a menu with select, from then on it was all Japanese except for the words 'Back up ram".
Kinda strange is that i only saw one file from the "wizardry" game to be deleted.
When deleted it worked.
But "Far east of eden" is a japanish RPG with lots of text and is unplayable for me (don't know if it was released for the turbografx in english).
But that's not the only problem.  :?

I was looking forward to the turbografx i won from ebay and it arrived today.
Problem 1)I came to the conclusion that it only accept RF signal to the TV.
Problem 2) It doesn't fit to in my pal tv allthough it accept NTSC.
Problem 3) Tried to overcome that problem with RF cables from my Sega Master system and NES.
Found a few channels but only managed a fuzzy picture and no sound but a lot of nois from the TV.

But i kept my head high and noticed on the forums there is a turbobooster wich fits into the RF slot and converts this to composite.
Not sure it will work properly then, maybe it could be a malfunction of the turbografx, i don't know.

Has anyone experience here of connecting a turbografx on a european TV?

mmhh... think of getting a new thread on this as i'm in the wrong topic here.

I never tried to hook up my PC-Engine to my PAL TV using the RF-out. I've a RGB modded PCE, so I connect it via a Scart-cable. But I also own a PC-FX, which cannot be RGB modded. I connected this NTSC machine using a NTSC->PAL converter bought at Play-Asia for about $25 (see here for the item).
This thing doesn't deliver you the best picture, but it's better than nothing. Or you can let have your SuperGrafx modded to have a RGB port. This will give you the best picture.

I can't hook up that m8!

I think you misunderstood my question.
My tv can play ntsc but as the turbografx has only a US antenna output it can't be connected to the PAL antenna slot of my TV.
I think need an adapter that goes from a US ntsc antenna to composite with L/R for audio so i can connect it to the front of my TV.

Yes, the TurboBooster (or TurboBooster Plus, which adds memory back-up) will provide RCA jacks for you instead of RF.  If your TV is compatible with NTSC... I guess that's all you need.

I recommend getting the TurboBooster Plus if you play HuCard games with game saves (there aren't too many... Order of the Griffon springs to mind)  ... entering passwords manually is a real pain.

Don't worry, the game is a breeze with the walkthrough I have up on GameFAQs. I even drew out every single spell in ascii art and 'drew' pictures of every single menu with easy to identify translations.

If this isn't actually FEOE, but one of the sequals, I've got walkthroughs for both on GameFAQs as well. The one for II 'Maru isn't as grandiose, but my Kabuki Den walkthrough has got to be the most ambitious walkthrough ever created(seriously). I 'drew' every single area, towns, dungeons, overworld map. Every single item, technique and the portraits of each main character as you meet them. Plus I drew every Boss.

In between all of this is still the most comprehensive walkthrough you'll find with full Beastiaries & Item lists.

If you aren't impressed with FEOE 1(if thats what you have) aka ZIRIA, don't give up on the series. The subsequent sequels have some of the nicest PCE RPG aesthetics around.

And best of all, all 3 can be had for as little as $5 each on eBay. If you like RPG's at all, these games are the best reason to play a PC Engine.

The walkthroughs can be found here  (I did a search for "Tengai Makyou" instead ;) ). The ASCII art in that walkthrough is excellent, Black_Tiger!

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

thanks m8!  :)

PS: Have been playing Granzort a lot last weekend.
Hard game and reached to level (i think 6) after the 2nd stone boss with the mask wich you have to attack between his legs when he jumps down. lol
There's something about this game that makes you come back to it.

Granzort is great.  It gets pretty tough towards the end... and I have yet to beat it.  I feel that it could have been even better (the platforming could have been more creative... as it stands it employs generic platformer mechanics), but, nonetheless, I love the game...

and yes, it draws you back for multiple replays.  I dig the atmosphere of the game... althought the underground/cavern stages aren't particularly captivating...

Aldynes and Granzort are my fave SGX games, especially since they are unique to this platform (unlike 194X and GnG).

Aldynes and Granzort are definitely the best Super Grafx games because of originality like you said.

Pheww... Just finished Granzort an hour ago.  :D

Reminds me a bit like Metroid only Granzort is more arcadelike.

It's surprising how some games like Metroid and Mario Bros while good games get so much attention and others that are as good are forgotten.

I think it's a matter of userbase, familiar brand, publicity, ...
