Superpcenginegrafx updates: SFIICE Comparison and Forum
« on: October 04, 2008, 08:48:01 AM »
I've been holding off on releasing this until I finished a few other things that I wanted to launch with it. But since it is already being discussed on another forum, I decided to release it as-is for now.

Here is my crazy over the top Street Fighter II' MD vs PCE vs SFC comparison which is so detailed that it would make AirRaidX blush.

I don't think I've yet seen a comparison of any 16-bit ports as detailed as this. Even if you're not interested in such a thorough breakdown, it's also serves as a gallery of the game.

I'm also opening up the new forum for my site. Under Content Discussion I will add a thread for each new feature as they are created. I get a ton of e-mail questions and requests about my site from all kinds of people, so hopefully this will work out much better. :)

Very impressive work. I would love to see a few more arcade shots mixed in with the others, then it would be perfect.

I've joined the forum and made my first post (you could probably guess who I am there)!

What I've seen from the Street Fighter II Champion Edition Comparison, it looks like it was nicely made (as usual :)). It's also nice that you've taken an "unbiased" sort of approach to each of the versions, also.

I've planned to do a separate section for more direct arcade comparisons, but from the beginning I wanted to keep the focus on the ports, especially since they're all based on World Warrior SFC and not the arcade. I actually had many more arcade pics for things like the projectiles and effects and such, but cut them because they're took up so much space on the page and looked the same as the ports, only wider. :P

It's basically the same style that you're using for your Bomberman '94/Mega Bomberman comparison.

Unbiased opinions suck. All content on Black Tiger's site needs to contain lots of anti- SEGA and Nintendo propaganda and also slam and deride those companies' respective consoles at every opportunity.

Seriously though, nice work, Black Tiger.

That was awesome, Black Tiger. I love home port comparisons.  I have a question for you:

If you walked into a bar and saw the SFC/MD/PCE versions of CE which one would you
bring home?

I'm interested in hearing what everybody has to say about this.  8)

Awesome work man,I loved it! you covered basically every important compare points and most all the minor ones too. The only thing really left would be to compare to see if all the versions retain all the combos/dizzy/re-dizzy combos the arcade had.

Like it, but this topic reminds me of the old school vid magazines that had screenshot comparison. When I clicked on backgrounds I saw it was a Youtube comparison. Could you get more background screenshots or did I miss that? I think I just saw a handfull. The screenshot that magazines always used to point out how awesome the PC-Engine version was the Guile level. That level put the other games to shame (closest to arcade). I will have to dig around for this old EGM mag, but it was alike a 3 page special on the PC-Engine SFII.

Look below the youtube comparison, there you will find the screen shot comparisons separated in three sections, page 1, page 2 and page 3.

That sounds like the first unveiling of the PC Engine version, in which the only comparison was the fugly still birth Genesis port that was completely redone. I've got it and I believe it's not buried too deep, so if I am able to, I'll scan it sometime today and put it up here.

Yeah - exactly that is the one. It was just against the fugly Genesis version. If I find I will scan and post. I remember seeing a picture of the avenue 6 and wishing so bad that I had one!

It really depends on someone's tastes. There are many people who have little interest in the actual graphics and are more interested in special effects. These types would say that the PC Engine version is garbage because it doesn't have the same layered bgs as the other ports. Of course, if the other ports didn't have layered bgs, like many of the Neo Geo ports, then they'd think that the PCE version is amazing.

Many people dismiss the PC Engine version because the music 'instruments' don't sound like their favorite console, either Genesis or SNES (they usually don't like the rival console's sound either). The music is actually one of the HuCard's selling points to me, since the music itself is my favorite version of the soundtrack, even if the sounds themselves aren't special by PC Engine standards.

It was all the little things that made the PC Engine version special to me. Like the colored smoke clouds, variety of shaded fonts and how all the color just pops out. That's why I compared all the things most people wouldn't think of, because in most of those ways the PC Engine version stands out. It's not any sort of bias, it's just to show some of the ways that the PCE game makes up for some of its other shortcomings.
