Takin' to the Hoop......48 (sealed)Another advancing adventure amidst awe-inspiring awesomeness around Turbo ascension. Takin' to the Hoop is another sealed product from England and paid for $3. (I believe that's the cheapest Turbo item I've paid for.) But who cares about a sports titles. Today....I went to my local Gamestop (after many personal difficulties) and managed to purchased the Legacy of Ys: Book I & II for the DS!. How does it fair? Well...two words.
It's......GREAT!!!!!!
The best game I've played so far this year. Here's the rundown:
They've kept most of the stuff that made the games great with a few modifications. First off, it is literally TWO games in one. You have the option of playing either Book I or II. However you start from level 1 for each. The opening cutscenes are beautifully done with personal affection for the second. (Gotta love the song "To Make The End of Battle".
) Speaking of music, the game comes with its own music CD originally planned as a pre-order bonus and made the standard package as a way for Atlus to make up for the dealy. Though I haven't played the sucker, thus can't speak anything for it....yet.
Control scheme is divided into two modes. The normal setting is basically attack with the A button, something for newcomers to the series. The stylus mode has you maneuver Adol with the stylus pen. Attacking enemies by pointing and ramming into them is Falcom's gift to the fans, letting them know they weren't forgotten, and helps maintain its classical roots. Though it is strange they divided the mode into left and right-handed sections. Anyway I love this setup as it accommodates for the new fans as well as old without alienating either.
The story has changed somewhat. Instead shipping to port and greeted by the fortune, the game starts with Adol shipwrecked after braving the Veil of Storms surrounding the island (an idea borrowed from VI) and waking up in the port town. Now having to travel to Minea and meeting up with the fortune teller. Haven't gotten too far as recently retrieved the first book. As looks go, they probably using the same 3d engine for Ys VI on the PSP, 3d rendered background with 2d movable sprites. The environments are bigger with a whole lot added for exploration and many enemies had extreme makeovers. (Those floating heads in the dungeons are HUGE!
)
There's are no voice acting, which is sad as that's what made the Turbo Y's stood out back in its day. But there's one thing bigger than no voice action. They butchered the boss music!
How can they?! It was the greatest song the system....scratched that. It was the equivalent of a godsend and they go rip it a new one.
AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
huff...huff....huff....I'm fine. Besides my personal....gripes. So far the remake hasn't let me down. Did anyone else bought the game? Throw in your two cents!
