Valis II......47 (complete w/box)

A beautiful breath-taking bounty of a bi-twelve hour to the back-calling of my birth.....in plain english, it's my birthday!  :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, I turn a year older, a year wiser, and a year closer to whatever the hell I'm suppose to be doing. I haven't much to say right now as I spent the entire day celebrating/working on projects (personal and job-related). Wish I could do more but sometimes laziness gets the better of me and ended accomplishing nothing, really kicking myself for it. So, I'm making a birthday pledge! To do more work during the day and get more stuff overall as time we may have plenty now is a fleeting thing that many realize all too late.

Final Zone II.......46 (sealed)

Time to another chronological depression leading to the spatial expansion to the future of Turbo hope on the countdown. Lately, I've slowed down a bit  clocking at the speed of one game per week ever since I caught that nasty cold bug.  Well. enough with that, now is when I rev my engine, ignite the turbo boosters....not into high gear, but EXTREME gear!

To make up for precious I'm doing a countdown once a day everyday until I've caught up. So, let's not waste anymore chronos particles and move through the 4th dimension via the 5th with today's entry: Final Zone II.

Yes people. It's sealed, I'm sad to say.  Why? Well, it looks like a friggin' good game. Problem is I don't want to open it, it's that I can't. To give you a better understanding of what I'm talking about. Let's kick into reverse and turn back the clock to the day I started on my Turbo travels. Three reasons behind that initial point: 1) Want to have the biggest Turbo e-penis  [/sarcasm] 2) Want to try out every game this great, underrated system had to offer and 3) it's a nice investment when I sell it. Face it, what good are video games when you kicked the bucket unless you're a reincarnated Egyptian pharaoh. Eventually, we all have to....let it go at some point.  Difference is I'm going to sell it before my meeting with the immortal specter.

Now I know what you're thinking and that's short term. My plan is LONG term. The few grand spend today could going for $50,000, $100,000, or even a MILLION ,decades from now. That kind of money could pay for my children/grandchildren's college tuition (pending inflation). Retro video games (especially the sealed and/or rare variety) have appreciated in price within the last few years, so it's not too far-fetched to believe this startling trend to continue on. Sealed stuff has fetched for astronomical amounts (sealed Chrono Trigger sold for least a GRAND) compared to the complete opened items. Let me ensure you,  my goal is not get everything sealed. It's having a complete US Boxed Turbo collection netting me the biggest e-penis in the world. [/sarcasm] Seriously, I don't buy these unless the price is right and usually is the case. Final Zone II cost me $15 (a steal compared to Ebay  :) ). My goal is get every game and have the most fun I can get with them. That's what makes collecting video games fun.

BTW, I want to thank everyone for all your birthday comments. You guys always make me feel welcome.

FZII really isn't a bad game. The graphics and gameplay get much better further into the game. I hope someday you can pick up a loose copy for cheap so you can give it a play.

Look forward to your further listings. heh

Not saying the game is bad. Just that its monetary value would severely lower if it were opened (which I'm very tempted to 8-[) and its in very good shape for a 20-year old sealed game. Usually I have a complete, unboxed copies solely for playing purposes, however I'm still looking for one at a relatively low price but Ebay isn't much help.

Well, I have a loosey goosey of this game I picked up along with a bunch of other games. I can deal with loosey goosey hueys, but when it comes to CD games I like to have the manual and case. I may be willing to part with her for dirt cheap, or even a trade, when I can find a replacement.  :)

Keith Courage in Alpha Zone.....45 1/2 (complete)

We begin today twittering the tongue-twisting tales to Turbo tenacity towards Keith Courage in Alpha Zone (trying saying that ten times fast!). As all (by all I mean those in NEC kingdom) know, Keith Courage is the launch title and in-game bonus for the Turbo Grafx 16. But the decision-making process that led to this in a baffling mystery and was one mistake among the many Hudson and NEC made with introduction of their product to the American market. First off, the name...."Keith Courage in Alpha Zone"....wow, what a mouthful. Why not "Keith Courage"? Or "Alpha Zones"? Either alone would have sounded cooler but slapping both together was a lot to take in especially as a 8-year old. However, not as perplexing as to why they picked THIS game.

I've played the Keith Courage for a good while and to sum it up it's an OK game with a few adventure elements (like shops) added in. The tendency to use the same layout for each layout feel repetitive. Jumping does get a bit stiff and recursion of enemies is astounding but what really peeves me the most are the spikes. The hard part was figuring where they were. They're hidden so deceptively, you'd never where they were until it was too late. The real kicker was that NEC/Hudson could released the TG16 a year earlier instead took another year and you'd by then they'd have a solid library to pick a game displaying their system's awesome 16-bit capabilities. So, why wasn't Bonk picked beforehand? Hudson did make him their Turbo mascot, hell, they named him "PC Kid"! Bonk's Adventure took advantage of the Turbo feature unlike Keith Courage and more fun to play.
