New game coming for your TurboDuo system. :)
« on: April 19, 2005, 06:23:02 PM »

This is the latest screenshot from the upcoming traditional RPG, Mysterious Song. It's a remake of the game of the same name which appeared for the PC a number of years ago. It is a SuperCD game and will be freely downloadable for burning onto your own CDRs or purchasable for a minimal cost (just enough to cover materials and shipping costs) and shipped to just about anywhere. The game is in English, but if there's enough requests, it may be translated to other languages (a French version is highly likely).

superb.

the old screenshots CAN'T COMPARE to the glorious new one you just presented to us!  goodness, you've been making tremendous progress.  I read your post about the folks who were helping you out, but I still didn't expect everything to be implemented so quickly!

at this point, I *almost* think that this is a ruse and that those are mock screenshots... only because it seems too good to be true.  I'll give you the benefit of doubt, of course :)

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Will the purchasable copy by on CDRs as well? My Duo is one of the original 1992 launch systems and can read normal glass mastered discs flawlessly. However as many other people both here and the Turbo list have noted the first generation Duo's can barely read CDRs (even Verbatims burned at 1X in RAW mode).

It seems like it is impossible to have properly burned Duo discs anymore because all the pressing houses have abandoned the old software which was able to burn them and are using the new suite which only spits out coasters when trying to burn such a disc. If I could find a place that still runs the old software then I'm going to go with them and have properly burned discs made, but otherwise, it's going to have to be CDRs. :(

What will be the cost?

Didn't Mindrec find a way to burn the discs properly for their Meteor Blaster release?  I can't remember...
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

The cost isn't final yet because I'm not yet aware of how much it will cost to produce them. MindRec went with silkscreened CDRs when all leads were exhausted.

Holy shit, a new Duo RPG would be awesome.  Why don't those guys at Mindrec do something like this instead of crappy old 2600 style games?  Good work man, I can't wait to play this!

GUTS check out MindRec's Blog . They are working on two games: one awesome looking run n' gunner called "PC GUNjin" and a RPG called "Isles of Avuxnia."

We've decided not to put up a webpage until the game is ready. No sense in putting up a webpage yet because then a lot of people will get the impression of "yet another game group who hypes up a bunch of stuff and then never delivers anything". Really wanting to avoid that. :) Make no mistake though, we have two projects scheduled at the moment and both will get completed...after we finish Mysterious Song, we're going straight to work on Neutopia III.

No, this isn't the MindRec RPG. Theirs, as stated by Keranu, is called "Isles of Avuxnia" and from what I can tell, it looks like they're going to do it on hucard...unless they're just releasing test programs in an easier-to-use format for now...

EDIT: Come to think of it...it may be a good idea to put up a website early. I'd like to release a couple of tools for PCE development in addition to having a solid site for "showing off" screenshots. I also plan on releasing an RPG engine "template" for other PCE coders to learn from and perhaps write their own RPG. We really need more traditional RPGs in the PCE scene! :D

Yes, I think your efforts might encourage a few more folks to take the plunge and try developing games on PCE.  I know you've been keeping a development diary, of sorts, via these threads... but you might consider jotting down some detailed notes about the obstacles you ran into and how you solved / eluded them.  I've only written cheesy stuff with BASIC  (apple ][, middle school) and PASCAL (IIgs,high school), but I loved following projects my friends were doing and learning how they accomplished neat tricks and overcame problems. It helped tremendously with the stuff I worked on (which were, in case you were curious, simplified text adventures... but with static / animated pictures representing each scene... I called them "illustrated text adventures"). I did also make a vertical shooter... but it was WAY too slow (BASIC + ascii... maybe, BASIC + graphics... no way).

Well, I've put up a preliminary website on my server now. I've also released one of the development tools I've been using in the production of Mysterious Song. The link is in my signature. :) Paranoia Dragon came up with the group name based on some ideas we were throwing back and forth. It works quite well. :)
