Soundtrack glitch in WD Parasol Stars?
« on: April 28, 2005, 02:05:05 PM »
OK, I haven't played TG-16 Parasol Stars for years, and I was hoping you folks could help me out.  Here's the scoop:

My memory is often hazy on stuff from a decade + ago, but one thing has been bugging me.  I remember playing hours and hours of Parasol Stars (North American HuCard) and THE WORLD MUSIC NEVER CHANGED.  "Music world" had the same set of tunes as "Industrial World" or "Casino World".

Oh well.

BUT THEN I used the "music debug" code (actually, it's a kool little debug) and THERE WERE TONS OF SONGS THAT I NEVER HEARD IN THE GAME PROPER.  Yes, that warranted all caps.

So, my question is this: Am I recalling this correctly?  Is there a glitch in the soundtrack, which effectively cuts out 90% of the songs?  Is this also found in the Japanese version?

Or, are the extra songs for additional stages or "loops" in the game that I never got to?  I am pretty certain I beat the game, though.  Thank you in advance.

I never knew about the debug code. :D I checked it out and I've heard every one of these tracks in the actual game. Here's the track list:

0: Initial track
1: Last world of the normal game
2: First world of the extended game
3: Last world of the entire game
4: Boss soundtrack
5: Final boss soundtrack
6: World Clear music
7: Secret room track
8: "Fast" initial track
9: "Fast" last normal world track
10: "Fast" first world of extended game track
11: "Fast" last world track
12: Bonus game
13: Character cast ending
14: Proper ending track
15: Game Over track
16: High score name entry track
17: Used when three of the square symbol things appear at the top of the screen
18: Heard when the regular game ends
19: Heard when you press the start button on the ttle screen

That should cover them all. :D

Thank you for your thoroughness!  Well, your findings have finally cleared that up.  I've asked this question once before and no one has really provided a decent answer.

The only thing I can think of: perhaps I heard the ending credit / cast music and thought that it was supposed to be music for a stage.

Anyway, I want to record Parasol Stars music (and other HuCard tunes), the old fashioned way, via real hardware, but nobody has even touched my post here.

Now I know how Keranu felt when no one helped him with his TurboExpress / GT question :)

I always found it kind of strange that the music never changed until you got to the last world of the regular game, which was Bubby and Bobby's home planet. What I usually do when I play is when I get to the world before the rainbow planet, I collect two of the star symbols and make sure I don't collect a third. That way, once in the last world, a star usually appears on the very first level and thats the three stars I need for the extra game plus tons of free eclairs. :D

What I want to know is how they did that awesome scaling at the start of some of the worlds...
