Batman has a temper tantrum of the highest order!
« on: February 03, 2009, 06:39:49 AM »
Christian Bale loses his mind on some DP on the set of Terminator Salvation. The DP f*cked up, but Bale acts like a shithead and doesn't know when to shut up. Just imagine if Bale messed up his lines and the director had a temper tantrum like this on Bale. In any other job you would be fired for behaving in such a manner. It's entertaining nonetheless. lol I feel bad for that DP. Bale or one of the producers should have pulled that guy aside and just talked to him.

Meh, I dont blame him for getting pissed and going off on the guy. The movie isn't being made to have blooper reels like a Robin Williams film or Beethoven the 30th, its f*ckin Terminator. The guy is supposed to be a professional, he knew he shouldn't have been wandering around in the back ground to begin with, f*cking up a scene. He was clearly trying to joke around, and it was fail and Bale called him on it. Its already hard on actors having to get into character, esp on blue screen stuff, or where they are expected to interact with special effects objects or things not even present, due to being rendered later, ect. Then filming f*cking scenes 15-30 times a row sometimes due to issues, esp ones like that where dick heads try to be pranksters because they got inspired from Pixar closing credits jokes doesn't help. Then you also have the fact time is money and time wasted is money wasted. Anyone coming down on Bale over this needs a reality check.

I agree. The DP should have been talked to, but in private. Like I said above, time is money, and I bet Bale has had days where he keeps flubbing his lines, but I also bet the director didn't lose his shit on him. While Bale was only expressing the frustration any one of us would have in a similar situation he should have bit his lip and acted like the professional he's paid the millions to be. Bale only made the situation worse. Now the whole crew was probably thrown off by both the wondering DP and Bale. I mean that DP might have walked in on his wife f*cking his best friend or something the night before and was in a fuzzy haze, or maybe he's just plain incompetent. I just think Bale should have risen above and acted a bit more civilized.

There are definitely going to be differing opinions on this. heh

Yeah, right.

In what world is it acceptable to go off on a three minute tirade, make terroristic threats, and tell other crew members to shut the f*ck up?  Few would describe this mom-puncher as a class act, nor would they consider him much of a 'professional'.

"Terminator 4 set incident

In July 2008, it was reported that Bale had an angry tirade on the set of Terminator: Salvation. In February 2009, audio of the incident was released. The tirade was directed at Shane Hurlbut, director of photography for Terminator: Salvation and was triggered by Hurlbut stepping onto the set during filming. The recording is of a highly agitated Bale screaming profanities at Hurlbut, threatening him, and finally threatening to quit the film if Hurlbut walked on set again and was not fired. It was reported that Warner film executives sent the tape to the insurer of the film in case Bale decided to quit the movie.

In an interview with E! Online, assistant director and producer of Terminator: Salvation Bruce Franklin said it was an isolated incident. In the interview, Franklin said:

"If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove...It was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed."

Also the key thing to realize, these people are there to support him, the other actors, and the producers and director, and make sure hes able to do his job smoothly, not harder. To a extent, its a group effort, sure, but the actors are key, and you don't f*ck with them while they work. In many ways, they are partially the boss, they run the films creative direction in some cases. Bale has put alot of effort into this movie also, with the script/plot, direction its headed, ect. Its just as much his baby as it is the directors and producers, and you don't f*ck with a co-boss of a multi-million dollar project, esp multiple times on important scenes. It would be like a band in a recording studio constantly having the sound guys cut in on every take saying "boo", or having a guy come around and spit on your mock artwork every 5 mins as you create it for a million dollar ad going into production, forcing you to start over. Was his reaction harsh, sure, but to me, def justified.

As for the "mom-puncher" remark, I never read anywhere that his mom actually claimed he hit her or anything specific, and the charges were dropped by the police themselves, after finding no evidence of battery, ect and a admittedly vague complaint according to them themselves. Its been long said he is estranged from his mother and sister, evidently after his father and mother split, and that the mother and sister tend to be money hungry. Rumor around from supposed Bale friends was that his mother and sister were there hitting him up for cash, and talking shit about his wife, and refused to leave when he repeatedly asked them to do so. After he forced them to leave they supposedly filed the false report to spite him. Just rumors though passed about the press, but I can only imagine they have some fact based foundations. His family issues are not ones I would want to experience in any case.

I don't know why the DP was wandering on the set.  He clearly was not  doing his job.  Should Bale be upset?  You bet.  Should he threaten the physical well-being of the DP?  Absolutely not.  That is childish and unprofessional.  Poor baby had a temper tantrum (and actors are often prima-donnas).

It absolutely 100% is a team effort, not just to an extent.  You shouldn't f*ck with anyone while they are working on a movie.  If they needed to get rid of the guy, then Bale should have gone to the producers and explained what was going on.  Physically threatening someone is just stupid.  Only immature people do that.

The most pathetic part of this is the fact that they're actually making a 4th Terminator movie. It got stale after the 2nd one.

I actually kinda missed that irritating kid from Terminator 2!

Why can't they ever get the same actor in these situations!! GRR
