Red Dwarf Returns
« on: March 24, 2009, 05:53:54 PM »
I know I have at least one fellow Dwarfer lurking around here. Anyone who likes British comedy should be very excited about this.

Go to listerscominghome.co.uk and click around. You'll eventually end up at a website that looks like it is unrelated, but don't be fooled. Look at the "Message archive" and listen to Kryten's message. You'll get a code to access yet another website where you can watch a 7 minute behind the scenes documentary on the new episodes.

Smegging awesome!  Guy pointed out that the Dwarf crew was returning, but I hadn't seen these sites yet, so kudos.  I can't wait for more JMC hilarity.

Yeah, this has been a long time coming. Unfortunately I'm not all optimistic. Its been...quite a long break for those people, and honestly the later seasons of that show pretty much sucked compared to the brilliant beginning, or even the book versions.

We'll see.

Even if these new episodes are only half as good as the worst of the first eight seasons, they'll still be better than 90% of the crap churned out for television in the past decade.  I can't wait to pick this up on DVD; luckily it'll be a short wait (June 15th).

The crew is so much older now.  Still looking foraward to it.  Seasons 7 and 8 were not the best but I still enjoyed them.

Here is hoping the specials lead to a season 9!

I think the 6th & 8th series lacked the writing brilliance of all the others, relying mostly on cheap gags as opposed to interesting banter, but like Necromancer said, even at it's worst Dwarf is a helluva lot better than most other shit in its class. Either way, I think this is looking better than anything series 8 had to offer.

On the other hand, I highly enjoyed season 7 for the most part. The production value was unmatched and the stories were varied and interesting. 7's major downfall was the "phasing out" of the Rimmer character. I do think the second episode from that season, "Stoke Me a Clipper" is one of the best Dwarf episodes of all time however, with the pre-title sequence being possibly the funniest 5 consecutive minutes in the show's entire history.

Rimmer fighting the alligator in mid air still cracks me up.

Nothing beats this

Haha, yeah that's a great one too. With bits like this it's hard to understand why people don't like season 7. I'd say at least 3 of the top 5 funniest moments in RD, ever, happened during 7.

I am hopeful, but I fear the new Red Dwarf will be as bland as the new Dr. Who.

Tangent: I wasn't a fan of Sylvester McCoy back when he was the Dr., but now I appreciate him a lot more...

The new Who is a lot of things, but bland is not one of them.  [-(
