TG16 hucards w/actual artwork on them?
« on: April 10, 2009, 05:02:57 PM »
I noticed today that the Parasol Stars huey (TG16) has actual art on it. Were there any other TG16 hueys that had artwork on them? I think every PCE huey I've seen has it, but all the US versions are BORING.

Working Designs kept their early HuCards looking like the PCE versions. After the Duo switch, most HuCards used art on them, but lost jewel cases.

Cadash and Parasol Stars were the first Hucards to have artwork on them (of course thanx to WD's high quality customer appreciation). I believe Hucards released under TTI followed the same route. Evident with World Sport Competition, Dead Moon, Samurai Ghost, and Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, just to name a few.

Do we count stylized text as art? If so then Splatterhouse, and Bonk's Revenge amongst others would fit the bill. Also where does Bomberman fit in? If memory serves, it has stylized text with a picture of a cartoony bomb behind it.

I just compiled of all the US hucards and what they used for art.

Curved text and Straight text means that the label just used the default font for tg-16 hucards, either curved or straight. Some space it out more, and some have two lines of text with the first part "resting" on top of the rest of the title underneath it. Ones that take up two lines can have either a smaller version of the same font for the words on top, or use the same font in small black letters for the words on top.

Stylized text means they used the exact same font as on the cover with only a solid color background. Sometimes the text is a different color than how it appears on the manual, but in every case I have seen it looks exactly the same otherwise. *Necromancer pointed out that sometimes the text is the same as it appears on the Japanese manual and not the US manual, as is the case with Super Star Soldier.

Stylized text with partial artwork is the same as stylized text with the addition of something other than a solid color background. Not quite full art, not quite just text. There were only 3 US hu-cards to do this.

Full art means that the hucard used the art exactly as it appears on the manual cover for its art.

I think every US release from late '91 on had artwork. Maybe early '92.

There are still exceptions, like Bomberman '93.

Not sure you'd call whats on Bomberman 93 'artwork' - sure, it's a fancy logo, but there's no drawings of any kind.

Either you guys are lazy, or no one bothers to read my posts :P

That's the last time I compile a list for you guys  [-(

Your welcome.
