21:9? LOL that is not an aspect ratio that anybody in cinema recognizes. The proper term is 2.35:1 and it can go to 2.40:1 as well. Basically the same shape, though (but still not quite wide enough). 21:9 just sounds so.... consumery... as if it was dumbed down for the public. But I wouldn't say that most movies are made in that format, it is about half. The other movies are 1.85:1 which is still wider than 16:9. There is no way to avoid black bars no matter what kind of TV you have. People will just end up stretching their 4:3 and 16:9 images to fill the the screen and not notice the distortion. Also, there is no format for video this wide, so the video would have to be blown up to this, reducing quality (like zooming in on a shitty letterboxed LaserDisc on a 16:9 TV vs a true 16:9 DVD).
